- MojomboAspirantThanks StephenB & mdgm. I'll use these but wish I could find manuals that actually say 1000s.
It's always the little things that come back and haunt you. I made the mistake last night of updating the firmware on the 1000s then doing a factory reset to erase and start fresh. It completely trashed the firmware on the flash card. Had to pull out the card and roll back the firmware and re-sync everything. Now I have a stuck drive tray on the 1000s and I can't find a drawing with the secret slot you are supposed to shove in pin (not in the normal place) and slide the latch manually to pop it. It does seem like or look like my NV+ which I have popped drives out that way. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat firmware did you update to and what firmware did you roll back to?
What capacity is your CF card?
The rackmount 1000s/1100 drive trays would be a bit different in layout to the desktop trays but similar. - MojomboAspirantRegrettably I just ran a firmware update check and when it came back that it needed an update I just ran it without noting the version :-(
I rolled it back to 4.1.7 which just fit on the original flash card. I've seen postings that this fixes the original issue of the flash corruption. I'll post later after I get this working what the final resolution of this mess is.
My problem with the drive tray is its stuck and I know that with the desktops when the release button is stuck (common problem) you can inset a pin into on of the vent slots and slip the plastic latch. Just not certain how to do it on the rack version. I just pulled it out of the rack and I'm about to take off the cover.
More later... - MojomboAspirantThe 1100 Install Guide does not show the way to manually unlock the drive tray that will work on the 1000s. The tray's are different.
Does anyone have a ReadyNas 1000s Quick Install Guide? Or have a picture of the 1000s manual release method? - MojomboAspirantOK I found the correct slot to slip the drive tray switches. Pulled out the bad drive. Re-booted and the system came up (on first glance) just fine using 4.1.7. So rewriting the flash worked. Maybe the defective drive occurring during the factory reset was a coincidence....
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFactory reset, resync, and expansion all require the NAS to access every sector on every drive. So it is not uncommon to discover drive failures during these procedures.
- MojomboAspirantThe good news is (in no particular order) I now have resurrected the 1000s, got it into RAID 5, replaced the failed disk, re-flashed Compact Flash Card wit the 4.1.7 firmware, and reintegrated it on my LAN.
I can see the Volume/Share, mount it on my Mac via AFB but I can't use it for Time Machine. The Time Machine setup is apparently not part of 4.1.7 and after all the pain and suffering plus the two entire days the RAID took to rebuild I really hate the idea of trying another firmware update. of course it was the factory reset after updating that killed the firmware/flash last time.
Soooo... can anyone confirm that 4.1.8 is stable and offers Time Machine integration in Snow Leopard?
FYI I'm using RAIDar 4.34 on my Mac OS 10.6.8 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should be able to setup Time Machine under Backup > Time Machine in Frontview. Yes 4.1.8 is stable.
