Readynas 104 drops out when copying to it
I have a readynas 104 configured with four 4tb drives in raid 5. I've managed to copy about 6tb onto the device without issue but now whenever I go to copy something onto the box, lets say a single 4gb file, it starts out ok and will copy around 1gb of the file at 31MB/second but then the connection drops out completely and I get an error message saying:
There is a problem accessing Z:\....
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.
Now I've obviously mapped drive Z: to the box and when I say it drops out, I can still ping it's IP address. I have tried both NIC's with different cables and in different ports on the router with exactly the same result every time. I am running two other buffalo NAS boxes off the same router and they are working fine.
I can view the files etc over readycloud and check it's performance without problem and in reasonable time, but then as soon as I copy a file over in explorer, readycloud all but freezes and wont let you navigate through the various screens. And once I try to copy a file across I can still view files and directories on the box in explorer, albeit it takes about 30 seconds or so to load each directory which is ridiculous, but before attempting to copy each directory will load almost instantly as you would expect.
Any ideas?

perkij wrote: This is a known problem (only to 3rd level support apparently) and has to do with an error in the configuration of the file system and how it handles the snapshots. The Readynas thinks that it is 100% full when it obviously isn't! ...that was his explanation.
A guy from 3rd level support (and an R&D guy who wrote the file system) in China is currently remote accessing my computer and the Readynas and playing with the file system trying to find a solution. I've wasted days of my time on this so hopefully they find a solution fairly quickly, I guess a firmware update will follow... or a refund!
Hi perkij,
Any outcome ?
Have degradedd mine to 4x2TB disks, from 4x4TB, already copied 2.75TB which is bit over the 50% at a speed of 32-33MB/S with no drops so far.
Copy continues.
Will see when it will reach the 70% or so. - lucterAspirantMy 102 (fw.6.1.4) has same problem. Only 1.19 Tb of 2.62 Tb used.
Dropping files upto 4-5 Gb no problem, but dropping 8 Gb files makes Nas going down, and a powerreset is required to get i
back alive.
Logs sent to support more than a week ago, but no reply. - lucterAspirantI finally had some time avail for testing.
My network: gigabit with cat6 cables and Netgear GS108T switch. Jumboframes disables mtu
on both pc and nas set to 1500.
Disabled antivirus in nas, transferred + 16 Gb file at 43 MB/s without any problem :D
Took 6:40 minutes with teracopy, dragging file from explorer to nas webpage takes over 40 minutes.
Still very frustrated with Netgear-support, no reply after more than a week, leading to the fact that i have to approve an investment in new ++nas systems for my job i will exclude Netgear :neener: - perkijAspirantAnother update...
So 5 days of my computer being remotely accessed by 3rd level support so they could look at the Readynas 104 and they couldn't work out what was going on... they do at least agree that something is wrong with the box though. I've now been escalate to R&D in the States... I think I did actually talk to one of the developers already... he wanted me to do a defrag!!! like WTF!!! The box had been alive for only 6 days, I'd done no deletes, it was at 70% capacity and I'd only done two bulk copies, in theory all of the files should be contiguous. Talk about trying to pass the buck and waste even more of my time. I should've stuck with the Buffalo NAS... basic, but at least they work.
So I now have a boat anchor... the IO to and from the NAS is so messed up I can't even stream from what is already on the box... another one of the tests we did was to copy from one share on the Readynas to another share on the same Readynas... FAIL! - evan2NETGEAR ExpertHi lucter,
Could you tell me your support case? - lucterAspirantHi Evan,
Contacted support at +32 (0) 2 626 8730 at 25-10-2013. The guy named Ralph requested me to send nas-logfile to : dutchl2support@netgear.com, which i did 25-10-2013 09.20 hrs.
I send a reminder at 31-10-2013 16.50 hrs.
No response at all....... - de_niroGuideSent PM
- lucterAspirantHi Luc
it seems you resolved the issue already, you can install Antivirus Plus in “available addons” to customize scanning folders if you still want to use this feature.
Btrfs doesn’t report anything wrong in the logs,so no need to try our test version for the issue.

Hello Jie,
Thanks very much for your pm.
Below are my details, and a copy of the log.
With antivirus disabled in Nas, copying files goes without any problems.
Awaiting your reply,
Kind regards,
Luc van der Lei
So, it's solved
But dont use antivirus?? - perkijAspirantAnother update...
They have now loaded up a NAS in their own test environment and guess what... it doesn't work! One has to ask how something with a fail this bad actually gets into production. I assume they are working hard to fix it but what am I supposed to do in the meantime, I bought this piece of crap over a month ago now and have wasted a heap of my own time testing and troubleshooting their own product for them! - davexyzAspirantSame issue on Readynas 104 with 4*4TB Seagate NAS drives (on HCL) Full with 750GB free. Deleted all snapshops raised a case allowed remotes ssh access etc. Now no word for 3 weeks +
Same issue when NV+ v2 came out.
Netgears response was eventually ( after 8 months) new firmware then move all data ( To where? have to purchase another system) factory reset and transfer back. Then introduce another firmware which recreates the problem
Can you see where this is going
