Readynas 104 drops out when copying to it
I have a readynas 104 configured with four 4tb drives in raid 5. I've managed to copy about 6tb onto the device without issue but now whenever I go to copy something onto the box, lets say a single 4gb file, it starts out ok and will copy around 1gb of the file at 31MB/second but then the connection drops out completely and I get an error message saying:
There is a problem accessing Z:\....
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.
Now I've obviously mapped drive Z: to the box and when I say it drops out, I can still ping it's IP address. I have tried both NIC's with different cables and in different ports on the router with exactly the same result every time. I am running two other buffalo NAS boxes off the same router and they are working fine.
I can view the files etc over readycloud and check it's performance without problem and in reasonable time, but then as soon as I copy a file over in explorer, readycloud all but freezes and wont let you navigate through the various screens. And once I try to copy a file across I can still view files and directories on the box in explorer, albeit it takes about 30 seconds or so to load each directory which is ridiculous, but before attempting to copy each directory will load almost instantly as you would expect.
Any ideas?

- alexk2013AspirantHi,
RN104 upgraded from 6.1.5 to 6.1.6rc10.
RN104 hangs.
Have a look at my post http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=154&t=74851 - alexk2013Aspirant

Made another test, immediately after the above test of test of the 5gb file, by copying about 3.8tb files.
It copies at a stable speed of about 31mb/s, copy is from another NAS, and it did not hang at all so far.
Capacity exceeds now the 70%, received the e-mail warning, and it continues with no problem so far.
Aim is to bring it to a space usage of 90%, something that was not possible before.
Strange it did not hang. Might be possible it hangs when idle? Will see. - Creed1Aspirant
A factory default is probably not necessary. There have been a number of improvements that are going into 6.1.6. You can get a release candidate from here. However, a factory default along with an update to 6.1.6 should give you the best possible experience.
-> I just finish to backup and perform a factory default with the 6.1.5. So your advice before uploading To of files, is to install the 6.1.6 RC10 (or wait for the released 6.1.6 (when?)) and again perform a factor default?
Thanks for your support - Mace_WindooAspirantJust to be clear ...
You do not need to "Factory Default" on every upgrade, moving forward. If you had the issue that causes some 104 systems to become unresponsive in 6.1.4 and below, then you just need to "Factory Default" the system once after you have installed 6.1.5 or newer for the first time. The future updates, such as 6.1.6 will not require you to "Factory Default" the system if you have done that once already on 6.1.5
Similarly, if the system you have is 6.1.5 or newer from the factory then you will not need to default the system to get benefits from 6.1.6 or future releases that have performance optimization.
Lastly, for customers that upgrade from 6.1.4 and below that haven't experienced any issues, you do not need to "Factory Default" the system at all. Newer firmware revisions such as 6.1.5 and 6.1.6 beta have optimizations and fixes that don't require any special steps after updating.
(Note: Factory Default will wipe existing data on your ReadyNAS) - Creed1AspirantThanks, the last message was a bit confusing (to have the gain of the 6.1.6 performance), amd of course, a factory default for each upgrade will be definitvely a pain ;)
So With 6.1.5 installed, no issue with a 1.5to copy (Files from 10mo to 11go). I installed the 6.1.6RC10 and looks also good with no unresponsive behaviour.
thanks for clarification and support. - Creed1AspirantHi again,
Network lost and RN104 hang for some minutes appears again during a copy, according to the few info available on the logs, this match the snapshot creation (or LUN).
Version 6.1.6 RC10 installed (factory default with 6.1.5). - Mace_WindooAspirantI will send you a message with contact details so we can take a closer look. Most users with these symptoms have seen improvements and I'd like to understand what we can do to fix your issue

It is now at only 11% free space. Upgraded from 6.1.6rc10 to 6.1.6rc11 (factory default at 6.1.5).
After reboot tried to copy a 1gb file. Copy starts and it hangs. GUI unresponsive as well and lasts with a failed copy.
Immediately after copy failure tried again and copy continues with no problem. Strange things ! :( - GrievousAspirant

If that failed copy attempt happened immediately after the upgrade to rc11, can you try that copy a few more times now that some time has passed after the upgrade?
