Readynas 104 drops out when copying to it
I have a readynas 104 configured with four 4tb drives in raid 5. I've managed to copy about 6tb onto the device without issue but now whenever I go to copy something onto the box, lets say a single 4gb file, it starts out ok and will copy around 1gb of the file at 31MB/second but then the connection drops out completely and I get an error message saying:
There is a problem accessing Z:\....
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.
Now I've obviously mapped drive Z: to the box and when I say it drops out, I can still ping it's IP address. I have tried both NIC's with different cables and in different ports on the router with exactly the same result every time. I am running two other buffalo NAS boxes off the same router and they are working fine.
I can view the files etc over readycloud and check it's performance without problem and in reasonable time, but then as soon as I copy a file over in explorer, readycloud all but freezes and wont let you navigate through the various screens. And once I try to copy a file across I can still view files and directories on the box in explorer, albeit it takes about 30 seconds or so to load each directory which is ridiculous, but before attempting to copy each directory will load almost instantly as you would expect.
Any ideas?

OK, will wait for your contact or message.
Issue happened again, during the day. 2 hours after restart the previous failed upload, network lost.
Their is an good improvement, because with the 6.1.4, I had to switch off-on the RN104, was totally stuck, and the NAS was very offen stuck (after 10go or less or parallele upload from 2 computers). Now the issue are really more spaced and I'm able to retrieve the upload (only had to skip and upload again the file sutck in the process to avoid corrupeted copy)
Note: no snapshot logged with the last issue, so maybe not related as mentionned on my previous post.
Thanks and regards. - alexk2013Aspirant

RN104 upgraded from 6.1.5 to 6.1.6rc10.
RN104 hangs.
Have a look at my post http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=154&t=74851
Made another test, immediately after the above test of test of the 5gb file, by copying about 3.8tb files.
It copies at a stable speed of about 31mb/s, copy is from another NAS, and it did not hang at all so far.
Capacity exceeds now the 70%, received the e-mail warning, and it continues with no problem so far.
Aim is to bring it to a space usage of 90%, something that was not possible before.
Strange it did not hang. Might be possible it hangs when idle? Will see.
It is now at only 11% free space. Upgraded from 6.1.6rc10 to 6.1.6rc11 (factory default at 6.1.5).
After reboot tried to copy a 1gb file. Copy starts and it hangs. GUI unresponsive as well and lasts with a failed copy.
Immediately after copy failure tried again and copy continues with no problem. Strange things ! :(
If that failed copy attempt happened immediately after the upgrade to rc11, can you try that copy a few more times now that some time has passed after the upgrade?
It happens after every reboot. Did a reboot just know. Same results, copy fails, GUI fails. After it failed, tried again and copy works with no problem.
Same behavior as 6.1.6rc10 reported sometime ago. - GrievousAspirant

Ok, and what is the timeframe for starting this copy after the reboot has completed? Was the system allowed to be idle for any length of time after the update to rc11, or has there been no idle time at all? - PapagaiouAspirantHi,
I had a similar issue recently. Finally I discovered that the network Bond0 parameterized as XOR +2 was the problem. Once I deleted the network Bond to get back to plain Eth0, I did not observe the issue anymore.
At least that is my experience.
Good luck - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
Given the RN104's overall performance level, I suspect turning off ethernet aggregation won't hurt performance at all.Papagaiou wrote: Hi,

Good luck - xeltrosApprenticeI confirm the RN104 doesn't use the full potential of the gigabit ethernet.
Never went higher than 95Mbytes/s in read which is far from the (theorical) 120Mbytes/s of the gigabit ethernet. - benpalmerAspirantHi, I've been having the same problem. The NAS works fine to a certain capacity, then after that point it starts hanging whenever I try to copy files to the NAS. All the snapshots have been turned off, antivirus is off, it's RAID-0 with two drives installed. The NAS will hang, and the network drives to it will become unavailable. After about 10 minutes, I'll be able to access them again. Each time I've contacted netgear support they've said the problem will be released in the next patch. After 6.1.5 it worked for a week or two, but now it's hanging everytime. It looks like people are still having this problem, but are netgear going to do anything to fix it? What's the point in buying hardware like this, when it can only be used to 70-80% of it's capacity? Perhaps we should all get a 30% refund on the cost of the unit and the drives that are being used by it.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredbenpalmer have you tried any of the 6.1.6 RCs? There are some big improvements in those.
- benpalmerAspirantHi I've not tried them yet. Are they stable enough, or am I best waiting until 6.1.6 is released? I've set up FTP at the moment, and I'm getting some really good transfer speeds (30-50MiB/s), and best of all no hanging/crashing. It's still transferring slowly 1-5MB/s then crashing through smb, but I'm happy to use FTP until 6.1.6 is released.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired6.1.6 RCs should be stable enough. However if you'd rather wait hopefully it won't be too long before 6.1.6 is released.
