Readynas 104 drops out when copying to it
I have a readynas 104 configured with four 4tb drives in raid 5. I've managed to copy about 6tb onto the device without issue but now whenever I go to copy something onto the box, lets say a single 4gb file, it starts out ok and will copy around 1gb of the file at 31MB/second but then the connection drops out completely and I get an error message saying:
There is a problem accessing Z:\....
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.
Now I've obviously mapped drive Z: to the box and when I say it drops out, I can still ping it's IP address. I have tried both NIC's with different cables and in different ports on the router with exactly the same result every time. I am running two other buffalo NAS boxes off the same router and they are working fine.
I can view the files etc over readycloud and check it's performance without problem and in reasonable time, but then as soon as I copy a file over in explorer, readycloud all but freezes and wont let you navigate through the various screens. And once I try to copy a file across I can still view files and directories on the box in explorer, albeit it takes about 30 seconds or so to load each directory which is ridiculous, but before attempting to copy each directory will load almost instantly as you would expect.
Any ideas?

Hi perkij,
Have a look here :
viewtopic.php?f=154&t=74192&start=30
I upgraded it to 6.1.5
I'm copying back, from my already existing backup, something like 6TB. So far it is working but it is too early to say.
Rgds - johnshortlandAspirantDoes anyone know if we use the beta 6.1.5 firmware and rebuild our arrays again (4th time) and copy our data over are we going to have to do it all over again once the final version of the firmware is out?

Called netgear support asked to join Beta program, they emailed NDA and then the firmware to me and confirmed that the beta firmware will be upgradable to the final version without needing to rebuild the array again, however as stated it is required to rebuild and recopy all data after installing the beta firmware.
So time to copy 5TB back to my NV+, upgraded firmware and factory reset and then rebuild array and recopy data. - Jobber72AspirantSame issue here. 104 with 3 WD red 3tb drives. Started locking up with more than 70℅ full. Interestingly, this did not happen with just 2 drives in it. Both WD red 3tb drives. Filled them up to 95℅ full without a problem and only then added the 3rd drive. So the issue seems indeed to be related with the filesystem and how it is set up. Downloaded the logs and noted that the 104 was frantically deleting snapshots whilst freezing. Now wondering to either wait for the update to the new firmware our just to sell this disappointing piece of crap. ( the write speed dropped dramatically after adding the 3rd drive; the system is too underpowered to handle 3 drives or more) bought the 104 as I was quite happy with my old trusty duo v1.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you turn off continuous protection for all shares (and maybe manually delete existing snapshots) does it still lock up?
- Jobber72AspirantHave not tried yet. Now in the process of copying all data off to external drives. When that is done I'll make the final decision for either giving it a chance or just take my losses, ebay the unit sans the drives and invest in a brand which takes its customers a little more serious. There is no way I am going to sit around and wait a couple of months for Netgear to get its act together (if ever) and release an update to the firmware which A) fixes this problem that many users are reporting and B) finally introduces disk spin-down again.
I've had more problems with this unit in the couple months I've had it than I had in all the years before with the old trusty Duo v1. I should not have to switch off a feature that is advertised just to get the thing do what it is meant to do in the first place. - rebbyAspirant

I do (with both my 104's and my 314). The only things that I have enabled on any of my devices is a single NFS share. All other "features" are off including snapshots, DNLA, etc, etc. - io2002oiAspirant

It does lockup even with everything else turned off - benny90AspirantI also experienced all these disconnecting / freezing of the RN104 since I have it. Sometimes it works fine for 3-4 weeks and sometimes it crashes 5 times per day and I have no clue why... The firmware version does not help, I had this issues with all of them since the first one. I have opened several tickets for this issue but Netgear could not log on my NAS remotely as my NAS was crashed when they tried out and you have no clue when they are trying to connect as you have no direct contact with the technician. It was going in circle until I gave up with all my tickets as there were useless. All I wanted was to exchange my unit in the end...no way... I am really angry since I have the 104 and even more since 1 week as my NAS keeps crashing (I have now thhe 6.1.5).
I hope you can help me.
Best regards, - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you do the needed factory reset after you installed 6.1.5?
