ReadyNAS 1100 doesn't respond to ping
I have a ReadyNAS 1100 in our school. It is rarely used so how long this problem has been there I don't know exactly. Probably less than a week.
A user reported they could not access the mapped drive to the NAS. I tried pinging it but it does not respond. I rebooted the NAS but it still does not respond - I tried holding the power button for >5s but it never turned off so I had to pull the plug. Both LAN1 & LAN2 are connected - I've tried disconnecting one at at time ie having LAN1 only and then having LAN2 only but still nothing. I've moved both connections on the switch that it is connected to (Nortel 5520) and confirmed that the ports are in the correct VLAN but still nothing.
LED status:
Disk 1 - solid green
Disk 2 - solid green
Disk 3 - solid green
Disk 4 - solid green
Act - flashing fast green
NIC1 - flashing green, mostly green with slow intermittent flashing
NIC1 - flashing green, mostly off with slow intermittent flashing
Power - very slow flashing blue
The description of the LED status at http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/1100_IG_05Oct07.pdf doesn't list what I have (4 disks ok, power flashing).
Any ideas what it's problem is and how to resolve it?
Will holding the reset button just reset the IP address with no loss of data? If so, what is the default IP (I can't find any reference in any document) or is it a DHCP client?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAn OS Re-install will reset the configuration to picking up an IP address via DHCP. Data is left intact.
You may wish to download the RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads) tool.
Do you remember when this ReadyNAS was purchased? Was it purchased new on/after Aug 21, 2007? If so it would have a 5 year warranty and still be under warranty. - smaunsellAspirantThanks for the quick reply.
Using RAIDar how will it find the device if it has no (known) IP address? Or are we assuming that it has one, it just isn't the one I'm expecting? Or does it find devices some other way? I'll give it a go and let you know what happens.
Not sure when it was bought. Likely it was 2008-09 so it might well be under warranty. I'll need to dig out that info. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredRAIDar would be useful for monitoring the unit whilst it's doing the OS Re-install.
Try to dig out if the unit is registered as well and the details for logging into my.netgear.com. Then you may wish to open an online tech support case. - smaunsellAspirantStrange. Set my laptop to the same subnet as what the NAS was, plug in to LAN1 and RAIDar finds it immediately on the IP address that it is supposed to have. I can access the web browser interface and all is configured correctly. It seems slow to load pages though.
Plug it in to the main network and it can't be contacted. Plug my laptop into the same switch ports and it can be contacted fine.
Currently doing a disk check. Next step, reinstall the OS as per http://support.wavesco.com/category/keyword-tags/readynas-firmware-reinstall
