RAM- 8GB
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bit Service PAck 2
PC NIC- Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit
Network Drive Model- ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID] 4x1TB Disk X-Raid Config

Disable Full Journaling- Yes
Disable Journaling- Yes
Optimize For OSX- No
Enable fast CIFS writes- yes
Enable fast USB disk writes- Yes
Using Drag and Drop 4.3TB File, write speed is 11.6MB/sec (66% of defaults speed expectation, 44% of Optimal Config Expectation).
Read speed is 26MB/sec (104% of defaults speed expectation, 93% of Optimal Config Expectation).
ReadyNAs is less than 1 month old and has been slow from the start.
Have tried:
1) Disable Norton 360 Firwall and Viruscan- No effect
2) Check for Network Errors- a few over several days including doing a full system backup a couple of times and 1 system crash during the backup using Norton Ghost.
Details:
Network Errors [Ethernet 1]
Auto-negotiation 0
Bad packets 410
Disconnect 0
False carrier 0
Idle errors 0
Link failures 0
Receive errors 0
Symbol errors 0
VLAN tags 0
TCP Retransmits 26
Unrecovered TCP Retransmits 21
Have checked router FW is up to date and on compatible list.
3) Checked System Log- No issues
4) No USB Drive connected
5) Checked for Marginal disks- None
6) No Snapshots
7) Closed RAIDar and FrontView
8) Check if BitTorrent is enabled.- No
Any other ideas on what to look for?

When does diagnotics get run? I do not remember seeing a utility for this. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDiagnostics is run on boot. Not sure if the memory is tested regularly, but the hard disks are tested daily at 4am.
I guess it'd be too late to return the unit as faulty to your reseller in exchange for a new one? If it is too late for that then contact NetGear tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) and they should be able to arrange an RMA. - CreAxAspirantis there anything new in this case ?
because i brought a DUO last week, and i see moreless the same read/write speed as you..
But not sure how you check diagnostics ?
and when i search the forums, i most say, it sounds like its the FW there is something wrong with - my friend has the same problem with his duo.. and its same FW 4.1.7 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCreAx, it's in the log zip file (Status > Logs > Download all logs)
Poor performance can be caused by a variety of factors. You're best to start your own thread. You may also wish to contact technical support for assistance. - richardhgouldAspirantTech support said the unit needed to be replaced. Gave me an RMA and are sending a replacement.
Not sure if it has anything to do with the slow write speed, but I will update after I replace it and measure performance. - richardhgouldAspirantInstalled replacement unit last night.
Ran same drag/drop test. Marginal improvement from 11Mb/sec to about 12.5Mb/sec for write. Improved read rate about the same %.
Still not where I want it to be.
Called Tech support. They suggested that I try to partition out the PC I have been doing all of the testing with to see if it is the ReadyNAs box or outside of it.
Another PC on the network is an older Sony desktop running Windows XP SP3. Network conneciton is 1GB, but cabling is CAT 5e. Also goes through a Fry's GB switch in addition to the router. SAme Norton 360 Viruscan and Firewall.
Results were suprising to say the least. Write speed doubled from baseline (exceeded target speeds), but read speed was cut in half. It is different, but I am not sure what to conclude. That is the problem with running a partition test when a hundred things change at once.
I am going to try to run a drag/drop test between the 2 PCs and see what happens.
Also will try to get a friends Windows 7 laptop and try that.
Up until this last test, I was very methodical about only changing one thing at a time. Changing PCs makes that impossible.
Any other thoughts on how to partition the ReadyNAS box and actually conclude something useful? - Bob_KTutorMy setup:
ReadyNAS Ultra 4, 2x1TB 7200rpm WD, 2x2TB 5400 WD, XRAID2:

I use LAN Speed Test v2.06 (http://www.totusoft.com...well worth the $5) to test my speeds. I then confirm them with drag-and-drop and with the speed measurement in GoodSync during a backup routine.
MBps - MegaBytes per second
Jumbo Frames off-- Write: 56 MBps Read: 98 MBps
Jumbo Frames on-- Write: 11 MBps Read: 86 MBps
Jumbo Frames does not work well with my NIC & ReadyNAS (even with a direction connection to the NAS). The WNDR3700 is supposed to be able to handle Jumbo Frames on the switch portion of the router.
With jumbo frames off, write speeds will peak and hold at around 62 MBps for the short run (5-10 minutes), but on long backup routines with mixed file sizes using GoodSync, typical average write speed is 55-56 MBps over an hour or two.
Slow copy speeds on Vista and Win7 are a much lamented problem that seems to be hit or miss:

There are lots of Google solutions that you could try, but here are a couple thoughts:- Try a direction connection to the NAS to bypass the WNDR3700: http://sphardy.com/web/readynas/how-to- ... -readynas/
- Use TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php. Maybe you've got some IPv4 setting out of whack?
