ReadyNAS 600 - stuck booting (SOLVED)
My ReadyNAS 600 Rev A is stuck booting, all drives show up as green in RAIDar, no yellow lights in the front. Power light(blue) blinking every 4. I left it on for 14 hours and it got no where. This problem happened after using the FrontView firmware update, no power inturreptions system emailed me telling me to reboot it. I did and it hasn't finished booting since.
Thread update: Was requested to do Memory Test, which failed with drive lights 1-2 solid green. Meaning DIMM Fails memory access test, re-seat DIMM or replace DIMM.
Thread update(2015-03-23 02:00 PM EST): New memory arrived, running test now will update with results.
Thread update(2015-03-23 03:16 PM EST):Lights came back 1 & 3 Green, Meaning Boot loader fails to locate valid RAIDiator image, raw-write CF shall solve the problem, otherwise CF socket and DIMM are in question.
I've purchased a new 128 MB CF, when it arrives I will rewrite the image to the new one and install into current device.
Going to retry OS re-install in mean time.
Thread update(2015-03-23 03:31 PM EST): Did OS re-install, system booted up. RAIDar moved from booting to "4.1.14" to "file system check,100%" to "4.1.14". Everything is accessible FrontView and Network file system.
Thank you everyone for your input and help through this problem.

- IFoundTheLightAspirantOS Reinstall mode starts and looks like a normal boot. (at least from where I'm looking no special light pattern or anything)
Shows up in RAIDar like a normal boot and gets stuck.
Blue flashing light every 4 seconds, and booting message in RAIDar. - IFoundTheLightAspirantAs extra Information this seems to be a Rev A Readynas 600

I don't believe the Rev. A units play nice when trying the USB reinstall method. Search throug the forums. The good news is you should have a CF card which is easy to write. It may even be the source of your problem.
If all disks check out good first, then you may want to consider getting a CF card (Its a 64mb originally but use a 128mb for extra blocks if needed). Write the correct image to the card and replace your original. By not writing to your original, you still have that as a back-up if good/needed.
Just a thought. - IFoundTheLightAspirantBought a 128mb CF. Will update more when it arrives.
- NhellieVirtuosoWas this solved by using the 128mb CF card?
- My ReadyNAs X6 seems to be having the similar problems.
EDIT: I got side tracked, was it recovered?
1. Where can I get the file to rawrite to the CF? as the previous link doesn't work.
2. Where is the file link to get the latest USB boot? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired1. The file to rawrite to a CF card is the standard firmware image. If you unzip the download you should see a file called something like RAIDiator-4.1.14. This is the file you need to use.
2. For USB Boot Recovery only you need to use this. http://www.readynas.com/download/support/ReadyNAS_USB_Flash_Recovery-4.1.14.img - Thanks mdgm, I have the following issue possibly.
"Boot loader fails to locate valid RAIDiator image, Raw-write CF shall solve the problem, otherwise, CF socket
and DIMM are in question."
but... its soo hard to tell as I have had one error after the other, also different boots appear to show different issues, so I'll start with the Flash or maybe the usb boot.
I have done the CF rawrite before but havent had to try the usb boot so ill stick with what I know. - Still a work in progress, but CF Written.
Used RaWrite32 for x86 from http://www.netbsd.org/~martin/rawrite32/download.html

MD5 hash of output data: df5164ade87daa095c1c9596aa529929 - Ok first successful progress in days finally made. I pulled all HDD's out.
I then installed a single 2TB for testing.
First Installed and Second booting.
I'm sure I have an older version on the original 4 HDD's I took out.
From RAIDar I have seen it installing and then creating volume followed by Booting.
And now I wait, as nothing seems to be happening and Booting remains in RAIDar...
And then
It looks like it's finally Booting again.
Some more activity with HDD1 and then 4.1.14 appears in RAIDar but with no HDD showing as present or Volume, but this is probably because the spare I was using was probably an old spare with partitions of Ext2 and Ext3 on it.
But then all of a sudden both the HDD and the Volume appear in RAIDar.
Now after days FrontView is available.
Damn admin.. password.. netgear1 then I'm in but FrontView crashes in Google crime and then reloads.
So moral is wait wait try try.
Now I still have 4 HDD that need to go back in with older firmware.
I have had a lot of grief with the boot and reset pin as it takes the old X6 about 25 seconds for the normal 5 second lights to appear.
What do you suggest to do next?
1. Power off, install all 4 HDD then power up...
Or
2. Install all HDD and then try for an OS update or is that automatic?
