ReadyNAS Duo does not ALWAYS wake up

Don't know how to find out which version I have, it was bought in Feb. 2010, but presumably it is v1 since there is a spin-down option under "System"
Details below:-
The idea of trying a second time unfortunately does not work since the first, failed, attempt does not spin the discs up at all. Only by opening another type of file, e.g. Excel, or direct calling of files in Windows Explorer will wake it up.
It's not a major problem, only a bit more manual control, but it used to work & it would be nice to return to that state.
