ReadyNas Duo dropping connection

Hi
I've got a readyNas Duo which has been connected via ethernet to my network (Samsung TV and iMac) for a couple of years without any real issues. However, I bought a new TV which is connected via wifi and the ReadyNas connection keeps dropping out whilst watching a film (not always). Sometimes it happens after 25 mins and sometimes after 5 mins. However, when I check the internet connection on the TV, it is fine, then the readyNAS shows back in the source and we repeat the whole process. It seems that the TV (Samsung) kicks the readyNAS off, but it's fine on the one which is ethernet connected.
I'm a complete technophobe (someone set up the system for me). Please can someone give me a solution? Thanks

  • Is the readynas assigned a fixed IP address?
Is the TV assigned a fixed IP address?
Have you tried the new TV with an Ethernet connection to see if the problem only occurs on wifi or not?

What firmware is on the duo?
  • Hi
I presumed that as the readynas was ethernet connected direct to the router, that it had a fixed IP address (this may not be the case, but from looking at the IP address, it doesn't seemed to have changed). Not sure about the TV ip address. Am unable to connect TV via ethernet, as there is no ethernet point near that TV (only our main one), hence the wifi connection. The duo is running 4.1.13. I know that there is a firmware upgrade, but if it was a firmware issue, then surely it would affect both TVs?
  • I don't think its firmware as yours is almost up to date. Some users' problems are related to use of very old firmware, that's why I asked.
I would check the TV network settings, preferably set up a static IP address, or at least a reserves dhcp address.
Is the wifi signal strong where the TV is situated?
It would be helpful of you could try an Ethernet connection to see if the problem goes away. Is the TV too big to move temporarily? Do you perhaps have some powerline adapters?
  • Have just bought Netgear power line adapter kit, so shall see how we get on. Thanks
