ReadyNAS DUO speeds are horribly slow...

I've kind of lived with it for a couple of years now. I've done all of the performance tweaks suggested from the sticky in this section... but here's what i'm saying.

I copy a 2 GB file over from a USB 3.0 external HDD from my desktop to the ReadyNAS using Teracopy. It transfers at about 3.5-4 MB/s.

I copy the same file directly to my PC just to rule out an issue with the HDD or USB - i can get about 60-70 MB/s. I attempted to copy to another computer on my network to rule out network issues. Same result, 60-70MB/s (granted that still seems a bit slow for USB 3.0).

Everything is wired over Cat6 and Gigabit switches....

    (1) what firmware are you running on the NAS?
    (2) are you using jumbo frames?
    (3) Have you tested both read speed and write speeds to the NAS?
    (4) Have you tried testing using direct connect?
  • (1) what firmware are you running on the NAS?

    RAIDiator 4.1.12 [1.00a043]

    (2) are you using jumbo frames?

    Yes, they are enabled.

    (3) Have you tested both read speed and write speeds to the NAS?

I had not previously, but just did a quick test.
Copied a 2.5 GB file from the NAS to my computer: 25 MB/s
Copied the same file back to the NAS: 3.8 MB/s

    (4) Have you tried testing using direct connect?

How do I do this? What should i connect to? Both machines right now are connected to the same switch.

The write speed looks good, so you probably don't need the direct connect. For future reference, that is connecting the PC directly to the NAS with no switch. You need to set a temporary static IP address on the PC to use that mode.

I would start be retesting write speed with jumbo frames off.

Do you mean the write speed of 3.8 MB/s? Or was it supposed to be the read speed?

    Sorry, I meant read speed.

Speeds are about twice as fast with Jumbo Frames off... What does this indicate?
Either it means that a router or switch between the PC and the NAS doesn't support jumbo frames, or that the PC happens to run slower when you use them. You can try to play with NIC card settings, or just leave them off.

Maybe try this test tool? http://www.808.dk/?code-csharp-nas-performance
You'll need to map a drive letter to use it.

Also, have you tried testing to/from the internal drive of the PC?
