ReadyNas DUO v1 - file/folder Permissions (can't delete!)

Hello,

Ever since I replaced my MacBook Pro's hardrive and migrated my user data I've been having interactivity issues with my ReadyNAS DUO.

My Windows 7 laptop has no problems, I'm sorry to admit... :?

I've connected to my ReadyNAS via AFP with the admin user/pass. However when I look at file permissions they are set to Read Only for guest and Read/Write for (Unknown).

I've looked through the CIFS/AFP/NFS e.t.c share settings and they're all set to set 'new files/folders as read/write by default' but there doesnt seem to be a place to manage to existing files folders.

Additionally Time Machine is having a very hard time figuring out what its seeing. Sometimes it decided to see all the backups, sometimes it decided to see just a few, sometimes it decides there aren't any and it needs to start new ones. I think its a UUID issue and am about to do some Tmulti commands to hope that remedies things.

Would appreciate some ideas!

My thanks!

    Did you try this procedure?

Click on the "Advanced Options" Tab on the upper right.
Set the Share Folder Name to nobody, and the Share Folder Group to nogroup.
Set Share folder group rights and everyone rights to read/write
Check the box next to "Set ownership and permission..."
The click on "Apply" at the bottom right.
The box next to "set ownership" will clear, and after a bit there should be a pop-up telling you it is finished.
  • Thank you for your response!

    Current settings are as follows:

he following options are provided to override the default settings for shares and should be used with caution.

    Share folder owner: nobody
    Share folder group: no group

    Share folder owner rights: r/w
    Share folder group rights: r/w
    Share folder everyone rights: r/w

....and oh look theres the bloody 'set ownership' tick box i've been looking for!

    Let see if this works....

    NOPE

the user/group are still unknown (to OSX) - Windows 7 sees them as nogroup and nouser still... I dont understand why Finder cant see the user/group....

"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."

I can confirm I am logged in via AFP as admin...

Should I run the " Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files." check box?
  • nevermind - scratch that - ticked the box too and hit apply to no affect. Still telling me I can't delete/move most things and that the users are (unknown) in Finder....

Again Windows 7 laptop is doing just fine accesing/deleting/moving data and still shows the appropreate unix user groups in the 'Security' tab under 'Properties'

  • this just popped up in the logs...

    Severity Date Message
Sat Mar 30 18:44:52 WET 2013 [media] Share contents ownership and permissions changed to match the share.

So maybe it sjust taking its time...checked to see permissions on a few folders - and now the (unknowns) are still there but 'everyone' has r/w control....

Hopefully the same log entry will pop up on for the 'backup' share also....must just take time to reset the permissions...will post up update...
  • UPDATE:

Okay - so I can see read/write permissions for the two (unknowns) (those being of course nogroup and nouser) and even 'everyone' has read/write access..

BUT - I still can't delete SOME folders, although most of the other stuff seems to be working okay.

Can seem to move around most of the other things...any idea why I'm getting an Error -50 on other folders despite the user permissions seeming okay?

The procedure can take a while on large shares, as you saw the pop-up comes up when the process is complete.

What errors are you getting on deletion?
  • When moving a folder with files in it...

The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).

    and

The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.

This is a different solitary folder with nothing in it.

    logged in as Admin.
  • This is happening for me too, OSX 10.6.8, connected via AFP. What I can't figure out is:
    - why only some folders are locked while other aren't
    - why I can hit Shift+Delete, enter my (laptop, not readynas) admin password and it'll delete, but...
    - I can't only delete, I can't rename or even view the files in the folders (e.g. quickviewing JPGs)

Needless to say, it's doing my head in! I'm looking forward to finding a solution for this.
