ReadyNAS Duo V2 - How do you access from outside your networ

Hi Everyone

I've just purchased a ReadyNAS Due V2. I've installed ReadyNAS Remote and when I'm within my local network it works fine but how on earth do you access this device if your at your office for example? The youtube video suggests you can access your NAS from anywhere in world but you clearly can't

I've spent hours trying to get the iPhone remote app to work, only to find out it won't because there is no FTP service on the Duo V2.

So is there anyway to access your files on the NAS other than having to be on your local network?

Many thanks in advance.

ReadyNAS remote sets up a VPN connection (hosted in the cloud by Netgear), so it should access your ReadyNAS from the office just fine.
  • Currently the v2 devices can only be accessed remotely via the Remote Service and from Mac or PC - not iOS or Android.
  • Hi everyone. Thanks for your replies.

I've been through the tutorials on the readynas site and non of the screenshots match. For example. When installing the remote client you don't get the option to register a user. you have to do this via the nas and send an invite email. Again nothing matches the examples given

I've been to https://remote.readynas.com and logged in but all that allows me to do is rest my password and change my name the delete account option doesn't work. Selecting that just throws you to the login screen.

I changed my nas name from nas-xx-xx-xx to an easier name to remember but I've noticed remote still displays its default name, ie nas-xx-xx-xx. Like I say, connect on my home network remote works ok. I tried connecting my MacBook running lion via my mobile broadband so I could access from outside my network and remote logs in but I can't do anything else.

I might have to return the product if I can't access from outside as there is very little point in having it.

    Thanks again everyone.

Could you try connecting to Remote remotely say at the house of a friend/relative? Need to eliminate the mobile broadband as the issue to try and help pinpoint the problem.

You can also create a new user by going to https://remote.readynas.com/index.jsp?pid=4

As for the old hostname still being displayed that's a known issue. Easily fixed via SSH.
  • Thank you so much for your help on this. I've created a new account and accessed again via my mobile broadband connection and I can now access my has. Not sure if it was an account problem or me being thick and not waiting long enough. I will go with the latter.

Is there a way of accessing a web based version of remote so I can access my data without installing any client? For example, I used to have a store and would go to mystora.com, enter the has name, user id and password and I could access my data.

I checked the spec for the ReadyNAS Duo V2 on Netgears website and it states it has FTP/FTPS protocols, can access from any where on any device. Bit bad to use that as a selling point when it doesn't have ftp and you can't access from you iOS/Android devices.

No, not at this time. ReadyNAS and Stora lines are developed by completely separate dev teams.
