ReadyNAS DuoV1 - Post 4.1.12 Upgrade no SSH, Frontview, etc.
I have ready through most of the posts and after seeing that none had all of the problems I have, decided to ask for help.
Sunday I decided to upgrade my ReadyNAS Duo V1 from 4.1.10 to 4.1.12. I had no add-ons installed and after checking the Logs to see that there were no errors, alerts, etc., decided to go ahead with the upgrade. After the firmware was loaded and validated, the upgrade proceeded without any problems (or at least that's what I thought) but when I tried to login to check that all the settings were still intact, I realized there were problems.
I was able to login without a problem but when I went to check the "Health" and "Logs" tabs, they were blank with the exception of a the "Clear Logs" and "Download logs". Clicking on these buttons had no effect. I was able to access most of the other tabs and sections but I couldn't see anything on the Health and Logs tabs so I thought I would install the enableRootSSH to see if I could figure out what was happening in the background. When I installed the package, I noticed that it didn't show up in the "add-ons" so I rebooted the NAS a few times hoping it would show up in the "add-ons" and that the missing content on the tabs would suddenly show up. I eventually figured out that the add-on didn't show up so I was about to start troubleshooting the firmware update issues when I thought I would reboot one more time. Suddenly, I had no access to Frontview, SSH, RAIDar, etc. so I thought I would hold the power button down to force a graceful shutdown. This process went fine and this morning I checked the NAS and although there is no disc activity, I still cannot access the NAS whether I use Frontview, SSH, RAIDar or even to ping the Ethernet port.
I could pull one of the drives out and copy the contents to another drive and then erase both drives and perform a factory reset but I want to avoid this. Does anyone have an idea or suggestion which may fix this ? As I said, there were no add-ons except for the SSH module and I have a static IP assigned. When trying to access via SSH, I get a "Network Error: Connection timed out" and if I ping the interface, I get "Host unreachable".
Thank you in advance for any advice.

- NoopyKat1AspirantJust to update everyone,
I performed a USB recovery of the firmware and the device is now showing on the network and I am able to connect to it. The problem is that I still have blank tabs for the Logs and Health tabs under "Status" in Frontview.
I don't want to rebuild my NAS from the ground up but if this is the only way to restore functionality, I will do so. Hopefully out of the 20 or so people who have viewed this post, someone can offer some advice. I should point out that I know little about Linux and Unix so I have done all that I can at this point...

Thank you again for reading... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you SSH in as root what is the output of the following?:
# df -h
# df -i - gsabiranAspirantI have the same issue. I upgraded to 4.1.12 . I had PHP installed. After upgrade to 4.1.12 I cannot access frontview. Appreciate some help.
- azurar01AspirantHello, I too decided to upgrade my ReadyNAS from 4.1.10 to 4.1.12. I had no add-ons installed all appear to go well, until the install did not appear to finish. I.e. the Blue LED was still flashing 6 hours later. I switched off the NAS, and then restarted it the next morning. The share was active, but there was no access to Frontview. I rebooted the NAS and since then it has been in a 'booting ...' status.
Since I don't have SSH loaded I tried a reset in the hope that a reinstall of firmware would improve matters. No Change.
Has anyone found a way to move the install on ?
Or is there a way I can roll back the firmware to the earlier version ?
Sid. - climbernlAspirantSame story,
Upgraded from 4.1.10 to 4.1.12 (PHP add on), that seemed to work oké. System reboot and I couldn't connect tot Frontview anymore. Share's are still reachable, so functionality is there, just not WebGui access. I have no ssh access.
Tried to downgrade using a USB stick with 4.1.10 by shutting down the ReadyNas (by holding the power button for a few seconds) and rebooting it with the USB stick inserted, using the described procedure of holding the power button for 20 sec (hdd lights flash for the 4th time). The NAS than seems to do something by flashing the power button and sometimes the HDD lights, also the fan runs at full speed, but even after an hour, this still goes one, while the procedure says after a few minutes the downgrade should be finished and you can hear this by the fan powering down.
After a manual shutdown (by pulling the plug, since the power button is unresponsive) and a reboot, RAIDar (v 4.3.8. Windows) still claims version 4.1.12 is installed and I am still not able to reache the NAS through the WebGUI (Frontview).
Please advise on an alternative (without having to Fabric reset the enitire NAS) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI can help get you access to Frontview again but I will be busy the next few days. Send me a PM to remind me next week.
- climbernlAspirantYesss,, finally after a couple of reboots I was able to gain access to the NAS through SSH (Putty SSH port 22, user "root").
First tried to restart the Frontview service:
# /usr/sbin/apache-ssl -f /etc/frontview/apache/httpd.conf -k restart
but no luck so looked at the log
# tail /var/log/frontview/error.log
And found indeed the issue with PHP. In the directory: # cd /etc/frontview/apache/addons
I renamed every PHP addon to "old"
Then a reboot (# reboot) and another attemp tp restart frontview. And Voila: running.
With many thanks to the info about the right commands:
https://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=71880&start=15 - NWFisherAspirantI upgraded a ReadyNAS NV+ to firmware 4.1.12. Now HTTPS access no longer works. SSH to the root functions as do all the share accounts (it has PHP and MySQL addons). During the upgrade from frontview (HTTPS connection) a dialog box appeared stating something like "network settings cannot be applied".
So the question: How do I restore FrontView access via HTTPS? I'm not a Linux person so if root commands are necessary please be specific!
Thanks!
NWFisher - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired
# cd /etc/frontview/apache/addons
# mv 00_php5module.conf 00_php5module.conf.old
Rename the other php conf file as well then restart Frontview as described earlier in the thread and install the latest version of the PHP add-on. - NWFisherAspirantmgdm,
Thank you. HTTPS connection fixed per your advice! As before, it works fine with IE10. Now the email notification about 5 weeks ago from ReadyNAS Xtras regarding a PHP5 bug fix with firmware 4.1.12 makes sense. I was busy at the time so it was ignored then while doing admin on the NV+ this morning I noticed new firmware so upgraded. I'll install the bug fixed PHP5 later, other work you know.
Thanks too for your really fast (and accurate) assistance and to your team for the PHP5 email notification!
