ReadyNAS IP address confusion

Hi all!

I'm struggling to understand some IP address conundrums, which I'm sure are simple, but I'm not sure where to look for answers. Any insight would be very appreciated

I've got a fibre connection, through a router, split through switches to 2 different mesh systems, 8 computers and a ReadyNAS drive.

The router address (as seen in my Mac's network settings) has automatically changed over the past month from 192.168.5.1 to 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 - I don't know why

My ReadyNAS was set up with:

IP 192.168.5.175
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.5.1

And it was working fine, then the router IP address changed to 192.168.1.1, and I couldn't access the drive anymore, but I could if I manually changed my IP address and gateway to 192.168.5.x

I thought I should change the ReadyNAS settings to match, so I made them:

IP 192.168.1.175
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1

Now I can't access the drive at all. No matter what combination of manual address I used from my computer, it won't see the drive, the RAIDar app shows no device.

I don't understand why this would happen? If I have identical settings on my computer and the ReadyNAS (apart from last digit of IP address), why would I not be able to see the drive? There's 2 4-way switches between my computer and the drive.

Grateful for any responses!

Is something else on the network (perhaps the mesh system) also giving out IP addresses?  That can cause quite an issue.

Sandshark thanks for the reply! Yes I've just looked, the mesh is set to 192.168.5.1 as a DHCP Server LAN IP Address, and 192.168.1.254 as the primary DNS server.

Should the mesh IP address and router address both be set to the same thing - i.e. 192.168.1.1?

You need one single LAN, one single broadcast domain for transparent communication all over your network. Only one router connecting to the Internet, and the same router LAN ports where he Mesh systems (whatever systems these are) must be configured as plain L2 access point without any routing, NAT, ...
