ReadyNas pro 6 memory test error 999

Hi!

Anybody here that knows what Memory Test result error code 999 means?

It is from a ReadyNas Pro 6 that won't boot right. (Boot Meny works fine though.)

I let Memory Test run over night. The LCD displays 30 passes and under "Err" the code "999" blinks. (Attached photo.)

Would a new (or two) memory module(s) help solve this?

Any input will be much appreciated!

  • Hi Jens3

It would be best to download the full logs so we can check.

Have you tried using RAIDar to download the full logs?

On Tech Support mode if correct, you can look at /var/log/ and see if you can get to diagnostic.log, kernel.log, meminfo and system

    Regards

    Hi Jens3

It seems that it's the number of errors found after doing Memory tests. If it has errors, most likely the memory is failing or is already in a bad shape.

Replacing the RAM will surely help though NETGEAR does not warrant/support that procedure, If you want if you can still somehow get the logs you can send it to us we might be able to confirm through it what is the situation.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards

      Hi Marc_V,

      – thank you for your reply!

The unit is probably already very much out of warranty beeing as old as it is, so I wouldn't really hesitate to "break warranty" by replacing RAM. :-)

I'll give that a go, and order new modules right away.

In the meantime, I would be happy to pull the logs off of the unit and send them in for analysis, but which logs should I export? (Or, what command shoud I use to export the right logs via Telnet, when in Tech Support mode? Unit won't boot so I cannot export via web interface.)

I did use the much unofficial instructions at: https://onlyblueatwork.wordpress.com/2012/12/04/netgear-readynas-access-recovery/ to access the unit and to mount md0 so I guess I could get just about anything from there.

      Unit is running OS 4.x.x.

      Best Regards

      /Jens
