ReadyNAS Ultra 2 LAN slow
Ciao.
I have a Readynas Ultra 2 with 2x WD RED 3 TB.
I used to have the HDs in a Raid 0 configuration... but few days ago without warning I have lost everything.
My previous configuration was the Ultra attached to a Wifi AC router and the PC connected via wifi AC with the router.
The comunication speed between PC and NAS (via wifi) was about 50 MB/s.
Now I have reistalled the OS, did a factory reset and even tested the HDs on a PC to make sure they were fine.
I have now a Raid 1 configuration but I am soffering an issue with speed.
It seems that the LAN connections of the NAS have a problem. I am getting poor performance via 1 Gbps LAN.
On Direct to PC connection via LAN, I get 15 MB/s that immediately drop to zero.
I have tryed both with Jumpo on and off (both on PC and NAS) and the situation doesn't change.
The Cable is CAT 7.
Ethernet are: Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller,
Please help!

- alphapapaAspirantNot sure how to do it.. you mean disable the "VLAN" in the NIC prorpieties?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserAre you using VLAN???
I was thinking more about interrupt moderation, send offload, checksum offloads, and adaptive interframe spacing. - alphapapaAspirant...ehm...no!
It was the only funky name in the NIC propriety that Google related to hardware acceleration.
So no, I am not using VLAN, but its listed as 'enabled' in the propriety by default.
Good news!
The second HD did not survive to the second batch of WD test I just did tonight..
I have run once the test and it did found some surface errors. It propted me to fix it, I reply yes and that was the last time I have comunicate with HD 2 (RIP).
The SMART still display it green but the WD Test now won't even start ("too many errors found").
No way to format it or anything.
Cerimony will be held when WD will send someone to pick it up (I hope). - alphapapaAspirantHi.
The second disk is dead.
The first one is in great shape, it did pass all the WD software tests.
Therefore there most be something wrong in the NAS that in limiting my lan comunication speed to 35 MB/s...
Any idea? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHow full is the disk? Transfer speed does vary across the surface (there's a graph here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/red ... 248-2.html).
Seems unlikely, but it doesn't appear to be the network or the NAS itself. - alphapapaAspirant...the Disk is blank. I did a factory reset. Now only few GBs ARE taken from the system itself.
I did the test with two different LAN CAT 7 cables, with the two different Ethrnet controllers (Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) installed on my Desktop PC and also with a LAN/USB3 adapter connected to my Surface PRO.
Same results. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSometimes performance increases with RAID, but it seems to me that the ultra should be doing better with jbod.
Are you comfortable with ssh? - alphapapaAspirantWell.. confortable is a big word..
Tell me what command I should sent and I let you know if I managed to do it. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserJust thinking you could try copying a large file to /dev/null via ssh, which would give you a direct measure of the disk throughput.
- alphapapaAspirantOk I will try.
Two questions first.
I have installed OS6 to see if the speed was improving (no!) then root back now to OS4.
Which one you suggest for ReadyNAS Ultra 2?
WD is sending me a new HD but they run out of the exact same one as mine.
They are proposing me a different revision of the same hd, the WD30EFRX-68EUZN0, that according to internet is suffering an "Idle3 bug" (LCC value increasing).
Suggestions?
Thank you so much again!
