ReadyNAS Ultra 2 LAN slow
Ciao.
I have a Readynas Ultra 2 with 2x WD RED 3 TB.
I used to have the HDs in a Raid 0 configuration... but few days ago without warning I have lost everything.
My previous configuration was the Ultra attached to a Wifi AC router and the PC connected via wifi AC with the router.
The comunication speed between PC and NAS (via wifi) was about 50 MB/s.
Now I have reistalled the OS, did a factory reset and even tested the HDs on a PC to make sure they were fine.
I have now a Raid 1 configuration but I am soffering an issue with speed.
It seems that the LAN connections of the NAS have a problem. I am getting poor performance via 1 Gbps LAN.
On Direct to PC connection via LAN, I get 15 MB/s that immediately drop to zero.
I have tryed both with Jumpo on and off (both on PC and NAS) and the situation doesn't change.
The Cable is CAT 7.
Ethernet are: Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller,
Please help!

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThe resync should complete with 12 hours, but the estimated times are often very far off. But it should be done by now.
Not sure of the precise format of "Raw Read Error Rate" but I'd like it better if it were 0. I have a couple of drives with non-zero values, but none as high as 43. Is this the value that concerns you? - alphapapaAspirantI have 6 TB overall but they are empty.
The Resynch started more the 24 hours ago..
Should remove the volumes and try to put only one HD in a FlexRaid config, just to see if transfer speed get back to normal?
I am concern also about the Seek Error Rate 70.
His twin brother doesn't show those numbers:
Attributo SMART
Raw Read Error Rate 0
Spin Up Time 5908
Start Stop Count 10320
Reallocated Sector Count 0
Seek Error Rate 0
Power On Hours 18455
Spin Retry Count 0
Calibration Retry Count 0
Power Cycle Count 166
Power-Off Retract Count 118
Load Cycle Count 10201
Temperature Celsius 32
Reallocated Event Count 0
Current Pending Sector 0
Offline Uncorrectable 0
UDMA CRC Error Count 0
Multi Zone Error Rate 0
ATA Error Count 0 - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserKeep in mind that RAID resync takes the same time - the fullness/emptiness of the file system doesn't matter. All sectors are mirrored, whether used or not.
I think its worth deleting the volume, and inserting the error-free disk by itself. You can recreate the volume as xraid (as long as you don't install the concerning disk). - alphapapaAspirantOk!
I will give it a spin.
If it will be still really slow then I must look somewhere elso for the problem, not the disks.
As T2 once said... I will be back.
Thanks! - alphapapaAspirantDone!
With only one 'good' HD and Jumbo off I have an avarege of 35 MB/s (Windows drag and drop), still below the 50 MB/s I was used with a Raid 0 (via Wifi AC).
So I may have gain in transfer stability but performance seems still low to me.
Thoughts? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI agree it seems slow.
It might be worth doing a clean install on the second hard drive (powering down, and removing the first drive) and see if that is stable, and how the performance compares. - alphapapaAspirantYes thanks... but first... I am giving another "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows (by WD)" threatment to the second drive.
Then I will swap them and see how it will perform.
Just for fun I have anabled Jumbo both on the NAS and on the controller (called Jumbo 9K) but performances dropped to 10 MB/s..... - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserPerhaps the router is fragmenting the jumbo packets.
- alphapapaAspirantNo router... direct connect between PC and NAS.
And as I wrote, PC has two LAN and I have also used 2 different CAT 7 Lan cable. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOk. Sometimes you can improve the JF performance by turning off hardware acceleration features in the PC NIC.
