RN104 unresponsive
Hello,
I am a new user. I own RN104. FW 6.2.4.
Since last few days the NAS was behaving weird. I don't recall when I upgraded the FW. Everyday evening ReadyNas will not be accessible. Not able to ping, access on web and unresponsive LCD screen. Only thing that will fix this is power cycle. I did that every day evening thinking to call support in a few days. Today morning, when I did the power cycle, it did not turn on.
What should I do now?
I have another RN104 spare. Can I plop the drive in the replacement while I find out what happened to this one?
Thank you

- NhellieVirtuosoWhat apps do you have installed on the NAS?
If you will transfer the drives to the new chassis, it will still carry the same firmware so there is a chance that you might still experience the same issue.
Would you consider testing beta 6.2.5 RC-1? viewtopic.php?f=154&t=78866 - pandyarajenAspirantI had Plex running which I turned off. Then I had Qbittorrent installed but I disabled it yesterday. I also enabled the antivirus yesterday, not sure if any of them caused the issue.
I am ok with testing it. Do I have any risk of losing data? Also, do I have any risk of losing data when I swap the drives into new chassis? Any sequence or steps to follow?
Thank you for the response. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI have seen plex act that way (at times the NAS no longer responded to ping when plex was refreshing its metadata).
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhen you say it did not turn on, what happens? Do any of the lights come on? Does the fan come on? Does the LCD come on? Or is there no response at all?
If the NAS is getting stuck booting then it would be better to troubleshoot it with the drives in the unit they are in now.
Do note as Nhellie mentioned that the firmware is installed onto the disks. So if the problem is with the OS on the disks it will remain when you move the disks to a new chassis.
I would use a scratch disk (must not be from your array) to update the other 104 to 6.2.4 or 6.2.5-RC1 before powering down, removing the scratch disk and moving the disks across (keep the order the same) if you really want to try moving the disks to a new unit. - pandyarajenAspirantNothing comes on. As if power is not connected. If I remember correctly, the first time I plugged it in, LCD flickered and then went off.
It's been 5 months since I bought RN 104. Should be under Hardware warranty, right?
Do you think not turning on may be FW issue? I was on 6.2.4. Can I go to new chassis and upgrade to 6.2.5 RC-1 if not turning on deemed as non FW issue? I am at loss here. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSounds like hardware to me. I'd contact support and ask for an RMA.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI agree. It is clearly hardware.
- pandyarajenAspirantI am opening a case with the support.
I am also going to try the drives on the other chassis and upgrade to 6.2.5 RC-1.
Any idea when it's supposed to be final and available as public download? Just so I can decide if I should hold out or try the beta.
Thanks a lot. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt should be released soon.
