RNDP6000-200NAS (Pro 6) - sizing question
hi all,
I just recently purchased the Pro6 model. I've been scanning this forum for the last few days and trying to find out what my total HD size should be under X-Raid2. (there should just be a calculator for simplicity as I see there's alot of questions). I purchased the Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 (which I saw in one post in June 2012, saying its not on the HCL) But it appears so currently, it came loaded with the Firmware CC4H as the notes on the HCL says its required.
(One gripe thou.. as it came from Newegg, the sticker on the box indicated FW V4.2.19 and when I booted it it only showed V4.2.15!, talk about mis match, none the less its been flashed to the current version).
my question/concern.. I bought 2 of these drives to just make sure it works each drive/device itself works, currently it's registering 2790gb which is correct... total size under X-Raid2 is only 2778gb.. is that right? I would have thought a bit more.. but I can't seem to match what 2 - 3TB drives under X-Raid2 for a Pro6 should optimally be anywhere.
in the June forum post, (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=63745) he was told that its not on the HCL, so 3tb = 3.5tb because he's in error for not getting something on the HCL, now that's on there (I thought it was over a 1-2 months ago..because I've been following the Pro6 for a while and trying to figure out what HD i would want to start in them). This is just close to mirroring, is that what I should expect for 2-3TB under X-Raid2 currently till I fill all 6 drives?
any pointers would be of great help, I've got another question but will put that into another forum as it relates to something else.
Thanks all for your seeing this

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredBackup your data and do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) via System > Update > Factory Default. I don't recommend adding 3TB disks till after updating to 4.2.16 (or later).
Welcome to the forum! - reflesAspirantthanks mdgm for the welcome and quick response.
Currently the box is running 4.2.21, (I can just move straight to newest FW right, its not required to build version after version right?) I upgraded the FW did that before migrating any of my data to it, I'm just not familiar with what the resultant storage space should be after dropping 2 3TB drives into the box, I thought maybe above 3TB just slightly, but I haven't played w/ backup/storage in a long time so I can't remember what I should be expecting.
I've done the reboot w/ volume scan as per some of the online documentation has indicated along w/ enable/disable Journaling. Just need some details on how to calculate what the storage size should be after 2- 3TB are put in and what size should I expect after popping in another 3TB.. thou I'm more inclined to just populate the rest. Thou current cost of storage is pretty cost prohibitive currently for home use since I can't write that $$ off lol.. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes you can move to the latest firmware direct. So you just have the 2 3TB disks installed? For that your space looks right. You'd by default (unless you selected otherwise in RAIDar on setup) have 10GB reserved for snapshots. There would of course be overheads etc. and a 4GB OS partition.
- reflesAspirantThanks mdgm.. I wasn't sure what 'normal' was! lol.. thanks for the sanity check
