- luriumAspirantJust upgraded 4x 1,5tb drives in my readynas pro and turned writecache on. Been streaming hd movies for about 5 hours without any cache timeouts.
So it seems this firmware has adressed the timeout problems.
For safety i shutdown NAS, upgraded disk 1 and turned on, then shutdown and disk disk 2 and so on. Just in case firmware did something to my data :) - Balders1AspirantFollowing a rebuild of the NAS, the drives now work perfectly.
I would recommend a complete backup of your data before flashing the drives with this latest firmware!!!! Mine could have been a one off but I took all the necessary precautions, NAS box shutdown, pop a box, flash it, pop it back, move onto the next etc. The system log also confirmed that the X-RAID config was borked... - dminches1AspirantThanks for all the updates. I am upgrading my 4x500GB to 4x1.5TB so my plan was to flash all 4 drives and then start the process of hot swapping the drives.
- captain1AspirantHoly S!@#$!! I smelled "burning toast" this morning and hunted feverishly for the culprit. I traced it to the ReadyNAS NV+ about 10 minutes before the thing sent up an even more acrid smelling puff and unceremoniously went dead! I had just been checking the device with the Raidiator 4.1.4 Widget and all drives were reported as being ok. All temps were within spec. Fan, volume, etc. etc. WHAT JUST HAPPENED??? And will Netgear fix this or am I just SOL? I bought this from Infrant just before they were acquired by Netgear. I'm not having a good time. :-( Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, sounds like a power supply. Hopefully everything is still there and working, just without power... - mraneriAspirant

Perhaps you should post a separate thread. You will probably get more focused attention. (But I agree, sounds like a power supply!) - captain1AspirantThanks guys. I'll call the support number as soon as things settle down.
It probably is a blown transformer (I seem to recall this smell from blowing up transistor radios in my youth). I posted here for two reasons: 1) I don't know the paradigm of these fora. 2) I suspect that these new Seagate 1.5TB drives are the culprits. I haven't had time to check the spec sheets, but I suspect that the 1.5TB drives draw more power than the 750GB drives they just replaced. I thought that this experience should be part of our ongoing quest to get these drives working in the ReadyNAS. I hope Netgear doesn't go and de-list them permanently though. I'm rather committed to them at this point. :-o
If someone could point me to some info on replacing power supplies in the ReadyNAS NV+ I'd be grateful. I assume that I have to break the "break seal void you warranty" seal. :-/
Also, if there's a thread about dust accumulation patterns inside the ReadyNAS, let me know. I have some gnarly pictures.
On the plus side, I now know where the RAM module lives, so maybe I'll upgrade before putting it all back together. :-) - spudz72Aspirant

Actually I think the 1.5TB drives draw even less then the 750's do. Seagate advertises that the new 1.5's only draw 8 watts at idle, so I think it's probably just coincidence that the p/s pooched and that you just happen to have upgrade to the 1.5's. That's my opinion anyway... - Just a quick note. Newegg has a $10 rebate on the 341AS drives, making them $129.99 to your door with their free shipping.
