- xsnrgAspirantI received my first replacement drive from 'egg yesterday. I was unhappy to see it was a SD17 drive. My second one is now shipping this way.
- dminches1AspirantHow do you tell if you have a reallocated sector? Do you get a system message?

Yes, you'll see a message when you open up FrontView. - WebaccessAspirant

The good news I've seen no signs of stuttering or hanging since expansion. I've just watched a movie while copying other files with no issues.
The only issue to date had been one Reallocated Sector on disk four less than 24 hours after expansion.
Four days later and I had another reallocated sector (making 2) and then yesterday a third. For those that RMA'd disks, how many reallocated sectors did it take before you RMA'd the disk? For those who purchased through Amazon did you RMA to Amazon or directly with Seagate?
The first three disks are holding steady at 0 so hopefully they came from a good batch.
I RMA every disk with more than 0 reallocated sectors.
I just received a new disk which is replacing a disk with 1 reallocated sector
It should not happen and (from my opinion) the reallocated sectors are only there to prevent data lose for a short time and to give you the time to replace the disk. - bdl99Aspirant

I also get an email alert at least I have with the three events to date. I always seem to get my email alerts at 4am so I'm assuming that is when the readynas checks the SMART status. - phrozenAspirant

Mine hasn't kicked out any emails about the reallocated sectors yet, so I think there is a rate of change threshold for the email alert. One or two reallocated sectors don't trigger an email, but maybe more than that or a rapidly increasing amount will...
Mine is holding steady at 2 reallocated sectors on one of the drives. I'll give it some more time and check in again later... - chirpaLuminary
The ReadyNAS Pro has a bug in the SMART check at 4am where it won't send out emails on changes of the count. The next firmware release has this corrected. You can check the count manually still in the SMART box under Status>Health.phrozen wrote: Mine hasn't kicked out any emails about the reallocated sectors yet, so I think there is a rate of change threshold for the email alert. I have three of these drives, two have reallocated sectors already (1-2 months old). :( - JellenAspirant

I'm afraid a lot of people will find out the hard way that a decent back up strategy is necessary...
Almost every home user works without decent back-up... Losing 1.5TB of data can be/will be very painful...
Guess I'll be able to convince more and more people into using Readynas solutions :-)
In the meantime, keeping a close eye on my two CC1H drives... still no errors so far (160 hours) - xsnrgAspirant2 drives holding at 0 reallocated. First drive is a CC1J with 358 hours and the second is a CC1H upgraded from CC1G with 1084. The other two drives were RMA's with one failing completely, and the other was growing to 40+ reallocated. I talked to Seagate, and they said anything over 1 reallocated sector is not acceptable for a new drive, and it should be sent back. So I did.
First replacement drive arrived today, SD17, now flashed to SD1A... about to drop it in and see how it goes. Would have rather all drives been CC**, but will see. - tomfreyAspirant

bdl99 ... how did you get the firmware upgrade for ST31500341AS SD17... seagate page says its not released and to subscribe to get it? They have not responded to my emails from last week.
thank you Tom
