Single blinking green light HDD light on Duo? What's wrong?

I'd suggest running manufacture diags on the drives (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital) as a good next step. It could be the chassis (as you are thinking), but I still think it is worth testing the drives.
I would also backup the data with diskinternal's linux reader to a PC (which requires putting drive 1 into the PC either directly or with a usb/esata enclosure).
