SSH access and Email alerts issues?

I'm using a Netgear ReadyNas 312 Firmware 6.1.8 and I can not figure out two things for the life of me. Any help would be appreciated:

1. How to I access my ReadyNas remote? I turn on the Remote SSH option but can't seem to connect to it anyway from my MacBook using SSH to the IP of my NAS combined with the port that was set for SSH. I keep getting the message that no remote connection is allowed.

2. Why is my ReadyNas e-mailing me alerts about every scheduled power-down? As far as I understand the alert should just be for an unscheduled power-down. Now I'm getting power down messages at least once a day. Very annoying. Same for emails about the virus scanner definition being updated. Great, but I don't care enough to get an e-mail about it. Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

    1. You enabled SSH for support.
    2. Setup a filter for your mail to automatically move unwanted messages out of your inbox into another folder.

    1. does not tell me how to actually enable SSH support so I can actually get into my ReadyNas
    2. is just a really bad work-around for a system malfunctioning in my opinion. 'Being spammed? don't fix the sender, filter out the spam'... Why isn't Netgear addressing this issue?

    1. "SSH for support" means SSH for netgear support to use. To enable SSH for yourself, you need to install the rootenablessh addon, which can be found here: http://www.readynas.com/?p=4203
    2. You have a point. But mdgm gave you the practical solution for now. There is no way to on/off individual alerts.
