Swapped temperatures in recent Raidiator releases
I posted this in a different thread (at http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=43886&start=105) but realized after-the-fact that it was probably the wrong forum to bring it up, so I'll repost here in hopes of getting someone else to check their ReadyNAS:
Setting up a new ReadyNAS Pro 6 with the RAIDiator 4.2.20 T19 beta, I am getting what appears to be a swapped SYS and CPU temp reading. I'm not getting temperature warnings, as it's still within the allowable range (~58C for the "SYS" temp and 38C for the "CPU"), but it's still suspicious.
Searching the forums, I suspect it's a firmware issue. If you look at:
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=58787&p=330566#p330564
(too new to make that a link)
someone else posted a copy/paste from their Pro 6:
The post immediately after that shows:
Notice that the order of the CPU and SYS readings on the second post are reversed compared to the first, and appear to be in the same order as back when they were "Temp 1" and "Temp 2" (looking at older posts).
Another example with an Ultra 6 at:
https://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=59397
And another for a Pro 6 at:
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=43886&start=105#p323300
So, can anyone else running a recent update take a look at theirs? Or anyone else with a Pro 6? This feels like a firmware error, but if it's a hardware error, I'd like to know before I get too far along setting up my system.

What is the Temp SYS supposed to be measuring? I'm surprised to see a system temp higher than a CPU or HDD temp, since they're usually the source of the system's heat!
I should also point out that the air being pushed out from the side of the unit seems quite cool.
So, can anyone else running a recent update take a look at theirs? Or anyone else with a Pro 6? This feels like a firmware error, but if it's a hardware error, I'd like to know before I get too far along setting up my system.

- ahpsi1TutorInteresting. I have a Pro running 4.2.20-T15 and enclosure.log reports:
temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=56.0C/132.8F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=26.0C/78.8F::expected=0-60C/32-140F
with Frontview showing:Temp SYS 57 C / 134 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Temp CPU 25.5 C / 77 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F]
Same from an Ultra 2 Plus running 4.2.19:temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=74.0C/165.2F::expected=0-80C/32-176F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=37.0C/98.6F::expected=0-65C/32-149FTemp CPU 76 C / 168 F [Normal 0-80 C / 32-176 F]
Temp SYS 37 C / 98 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Now I'll update the Ultra 2 Plus to 4.2.20-T19....
:temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=46.0C/114.8F::expected=0-80C/32-176F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=31.0C/87.8F::expected=0-65C/32-149FTemp CPU 47 C / 116 F [Normal 0-80 C / 32-176 F]
Temp SYS 32 C / 89 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
So the Ultra 2 Plus didn't swap the values but the Pro (which was already running T15) was already (potentially) swapped. I'll try a downgrade to 4.2.19 on the Pro....
:temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=51.0C/123.8F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=23.5C/74.3F::expected=0-60C/32-140FTemp SYS 54 C / 129 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Temp CPU 24.5 C / 76 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F]
No Good, try 4.2.16 (no enclosure.log so this is from NASHerder's raw RAIDar response):temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=52.0C/125.6F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=25.5C/77.9F::expected=0-60C/32-140FTemp 1 57 C / 134 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Temp 2 26.5 C / 79 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F]
Now 4.2.26 -> 4.2.17 -> 4.2.18:temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=52.0C/125.6F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=24.5C/76.1F::expected=0-60C/32-140FTemp SYS 54 C / 129 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Temp CPU 24.5 C / 76 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F]
I'll check my Ultra 6 when I get home. So far this hasn't been as helpful as I'd hoped... - IonitorAspirantThanks for the results. Here's my exact results, first from enclosure.log:
temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=58.0C/136.4F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=36.0C/96.8F::expected=0-85C/32-185F
And from Frontview:Temp SYS 58 C / 136 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Temp CPU 38.5 C / 101 F [Normal 0-85 C / 32-185 F]
What's worrying to me is that the "expected" values are also swapped, so it wouldn't take much for it to go over-temp if ambient gets any warmer. - ahpsi1TutorOn my Ultra 6 I see:
temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=10.0C/50.0F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=28.0C/82.4F::expected=0-60C/32-140FTemp CPU 9 C / 48 F [Normal 0-65 C / 32-149 F]
Temp SYS 28 C / 82 F [Normal 0-60 C / 32-140 F]
under 4.2.19. Prior logs suggest at least in my case the values have been swapped at least as far back as 4.2.17-T2 (no enclosure.log before that though I do have logs before that):temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=27.0C/80.6F::expected=0-60C/32-140F
But what is odd is in this ^ log's enclosure.log (from 04/20/2011) there is no mention made of temp 1. Temp 1 does not make an appearance until 4.2.17:temp!!1!!status=ok::descr=14.0C/57.2F::expected=0-65C/32-149F
temp!!2!!status=ok::descr=30.0C/86.0F::expected=0-60C/32-140F
All I can conclude is the CPU and SYS fans are plugged into the wrong ports on the motherboard in some units. - IonitorAspirantAfter getting cacti up and running, I'm noticing that the temperature labeled as CPU is much more responsive to load than the one labeled SYS (which stays mostly constant regardless of load). So, I'm starting to suspect that the SYS reading is correct, and maybe it's being taken at a particularly hot spot on the motherboard.
