The Ultimate CPU for Pro 6
What is the most powerful CPU that you can put in the Pro 6?
The E7600 and the Q6600 are confirmed, but anybody got any further?

read somewhere in this forum that it is workable

put in x3230 for few days. does not seem noticeable difference from original pentium d. perhaps faster for transcoding but i dont use.
now swapped that with a core2duo E7500 3.0GHz. ui pop up faster and cpu runs cool.
- Equinox1GuideThe X3230 is the Q6600 in the Xeon branded world. And yes, it works :-)

q6600 runs at 2.4
x3230 runs at 2.66
xeon has different instructions more suitable for servers

I am running a Xeon X3230 on my RDP Pro 6...running into some heat issues...I replaced stock fans with different fans and I do not think they move enough air. I have two new jet engines on order to see if they can keep things cool.
- Equinox1GuideLearned the hard way: first check the air flow direction ;-)
The air must flow from the front to the back, and the lateral CPU fan must suck the air in.- eelkAspirant
I was running x3210 on my pro6 for more tthan two years with stock fans without any problems.
The x3230 is the q6700, you can check it on http://ark.intel.com/compare/30797,30790
The most powerful of the same family, Kentsfield, should be the QX6850: http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/23489/Kentsfield#@All
But it has a 130W TDP, so you'll have to seriously think about cooling, I guess.

x3230 tdp is 95w
q6700 tdp is 105w
xeon priority is I/O
q priority is program/calculation
