  • i am getting a xeon x3230 to try on my pro 6

     

    read somewhere in this forum that it is workable

      put in x3230 for few days. does not seem noticeable difference from original pentium d. perhaps faster for transcoding but i dont use.

       

      now swapped that with a core2duo E7500 3.0GHz. ui pop up faster and cpu runs cool.

       

       

  • The X3230 is the Q6600 in the Xeon branded world. And yes, it works :-)

      q6600 runs at 2.4

       

      x3230 runs at 2.66

       

      xeon has different instructions more suitable for servers

        I am running a Xeon X3230 on my RDP Pro 6...running into some heat issues...I replaced stock fans with different fans and I do not think they move enough air. I have two new jet engines on order to see if they can keep things cool.

  • Learned the hard way: first check the air flow direction ;-)

    The air must flow from the front to the back, and the lateral CPU fan must suck the air in.
