Time Machine using OSX Mavericks
Update: Please check you are running new enough firmware first: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=409701#p409701
Hello there,
I have a Macbook Air running OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) backing with Time Machine to my Readynas Ultra (x86). Everything works, no issues. I also have a development laptop running the latest developer build of Mavericks (dp8) and on this machine, I can't get Time Machine to work. The laptop sees the Time Machine shares over AFP and I can browse the entire contents of the Readynas through Finder. When I open the Time Machine application and hit "select disk," it recognizes the ReadyNas Time Machine share and offers it as a backup option. But when I click the share, it says "connecting" and then I get the following error message: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'XYZ.' The server may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Any thoughts?
Does anyone out there have a Mavericks machine backing up through Time Machine to an x86 ReadyNas?

I don't know what problem has now been resolved for you but having read your post, I installed RAIDiator 4.1.13 (RC1) and decided to install Mavericks on a partition I use to store media and when I tried to connect to Time Machine I got the following error:
Time Machine can't access the disk "ReadyNAS".
The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error 2).
I'm just glad I didn't install Mavericks on my main drive.
Did you enter in the right credentials?:
User: ReadyNAS
Password: the one specified for TM in Fromtview - SkywalkerNETGEAR Expert@flamesong, Can you load up Bonjour Browser and check if there are two AFP service advertisements for the ReadyNAS -- one using just the hostname, the other with "(AFP)" appended?
- flamesong1AspirantEeek!
When I tried to log into the Time Machine share, my MacOS username came up by default and it's so long since I looked at the Time Machine preference pane that I assumed that was right. I'll have to reboot a couple of times before I can reply. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLooking up the error you got the first hit on ReadyNAS.com was regarding someone entering the wrong credentials and it sounds like that's the problem here too. If you can't remember the password it should be in the keychain on your ML drive/partition, I think. Easy enough to reset the password if you need to via Backup > Time Machine in Frontview. Though you would need to re-enter the credentials on all your Macs that backup to the NAS if you do that.
- flamesong1AspirantThanks. It wasn;t the password which I got wrong but the username as per my previous post.
Anyway, I booted into Mavericks on my other partition and using the correct credentials, managed to connect to Time Machine but stopped it from backing up as it's not the drive I will be using but I will install Mavericks on my main drive now as it appears to be compatible.
Bonjour Browser saw a number of ReadyNAS related items and two under AFP. - flamesong1AspirantMy first Time Machine backup since installing Mavericks is underway and it is understandably pretty hefty (18.68GB).
However, the odd thing is that although it says that the backup is taking place under the menu bar icon, the Time Machine volume has not been mounted. Is this normal behaviour with the new versions of everything? I have Connected Servers selected in my Finder preferences so it ought to appear on the desktop as usual. - flamesong1AspirantI just discovered that the non-appearance of the Time Machine volume on the desktop is a new 'feature' of Mavericks along with the static menu icon as opposed to the animated one.
Personally, I think that this is unhelpful as the likelihood of closing my MacBook Pro lid by mistake during a backup will increase. - vrspectreApprenticeHow do I get timemachine to prompt me for my username/password. I went into the keychain and deleted the previous entry thinking that might help, but still won't prompt me.
I just get the "There was a problem while connecting to server "ReadyNAS". The server may not exist or is currently unavailable moment. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again" - SkywalkerNETGEAR Expert

This sounds to me like a Bonjour issue. You're running 4.1.13-RC1, right? Can you load up Bonjour Browser and check if there are two AFP service advertisements for the ReadyNAS -- one using just the hostname, the other with "(AFP)" appended?
