Ultra 4 no longer archiving Tivo files
As of 2/16, my Ultra 4 has been unable to successfully transfer any Tivo files. Nor can I via Web or Tivo Desktop. According to the Tivo Community Forums, this appears to be a widespread problem, evidently a bug in the Tivo firmware. (I'm running Tivo HDs; not sure what other units are affected.) A patch to the Curl configuration file will fix the problem if you're running Tivo Desktop under Windows. The freeware program kmttg has been updated with a workaround. But to date, I know of no way of fixing or patching my ReadyNAS to ignore the problem (something about not accepting cookies, I guess, which leads to a "session ID missing" message).
Has anyone else noticed the problem and (more importantly) discovered a work-around? Any chance for a ReadyNAS firmware update to address it?

Have you tried the pre-release ReadyDLNA add-on Skywalker posted earlier this month (see: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=385166#p385166)? - ttyszkiewiczAspirantI am having the same problem as SixString. Both my Ultra 4 and Pro 4 Readynas units have quit archiving my Tivo's as of 2/16/2013. My Tivo Premiere XL and Series 3 HD units are not being archived. I also have the same problems with the Tivo Desktop software which the curl.conf fix got working again. The new version of Kmttg works fine. I hope Netgear comes up with a fix because it is not likely that Tivo will do anything to fix the Series 3 and older units since they are discontinued product lines.
- SixString1AspirantAgreed, I don't expect any help from Tivo (although if it's a bug, they should).
How can we escalate the issue to the Netgear ReadyNAS team? - ttyszkiewiczAspirantNetgear wanted me to fill out a survey about my recent equipment installation and had a comment section in the survey. I made mention of the Tivo no longer being automatically archived after 2/15/2013 there. Skywalker appears to be their software wizard on these units. He fixed the last Readynas not archiving problem after Tivo made a software upgrade earlier last year. Hopefully he will fix this one as well. It is a bit of a hassle having to do a computer download from the Tivo, then manually create the .nfo information file and then do a manual transfer of both files up to the Readynas. I miss the automated transfer!
- CuriousMarkAspirantHi, I just thought I would pop over from the TiVo Support forums and let you know this is a known problem and that TiVo says they are working on it. There are some workarounds for TiVo's Windows software, TiVo Desktop, and several third party programs have been patched to workaround the issue too. Because of that it may be possible to workaround it here using one or more of the same techniques until TiVo gets their fix out.
The problem is caused by the TiVo expecting (or is it sending) an expired cookie when a transfer request is initiated. The expired session ID cookie causes the transfer to fail. Sadly, TiVo hard-coded the date into their software back in 2005 and then apparently forgot about it.
There are two known workaround Windows users are using, here is a link to one of the related threads on the TiVo support forums:
http://forums.tivo.com/pe/action/forums/displaythread?rootPostID=11069716&channelID=10&portalPageId=10432560
The first workaround is to the change the date and time of the device, in this case the ReadyNAS with ReadyDLNA, to a date and time earlier than the cookie expiration. Clearly that workaround will present other issues, but it does work for TiVo transfers. The second workaround works for devices using the cURL program to initiate the transfers. Essentially a permanent session ID cookie is placed in the curl.conf configuration file. Luckily the TiVo software ignores the cookie content, even though it does care about the date. This workaround was found by morac from the TiVo Community Forums. His post in the linked thread defined that fix quite nicely.
I don't know the ReadyDLNA well enough to say whether this or another workaround inspired by it would be useful, but I wanted to share with you folks in case you wanted to give it a try.
Good luck, and I hope TiVo gets the fix out soon.
Another place this is being heavily discussed is at the TiVo Community Forums, feel free to stop in over there for more ideas and discussion.
CuriousMark - denarius1AspirantI'm experiencing the same issue with my NV+ v2. For now I am transferring with TiVo Desktop after modifying the curl.conf file. I'm posting here so I'll be notified of additions to this thread.
- SixString1AspirantUsing SSH, I didn't see a curl.conf file on my ReadyNAS. Does it use curl or some other means of transferring?
- ttyszkiewiczAspirantCurl is used in the Desktop Tivo software and some other PC based Tivo software packages. Netgear writes their own software for the ReadyNas units. The problem we are having is likely in the ReadyTivo addon which is generally part of the ReadyNas software upgrades.
- denarius1AspirantI have sent a pm to Skywalker, the maintainer of that code. He is aware of the issue and will be addressing it. In the meantime I will be using TiVo Desktop.
- SkywalkerNETGEAR ExpertI believe we have this worked out. Please try this ReadyTiVo v1.3.12 addon.
