unable to register product - already registered

Hi,

I've just purchased a second ready nas, used from ebay.  The seller says the unit is 10 months old, so I'd like to register it and have the remainder of the warranty (5 years?)  However, I can't register it as its already been registered.  Is there any way around this?

Thanks

Paul

The warranty is not transferrable (which is why the registration can't be changed).  You also won't be able to use paid Netgear support.

    Hi Paul_Thomas,

Unfortunately, there is no way around this. The registration is not transferable. The purpose of registering the NETGEAR product is to avoid reselling it as used.

      Hi,

Thanks for your fast response.  Does this also prevent you using the warranty? I'm used to transferable warrenties which I have used on several occasions for second user HP products.

      Thanks

      Paul

      Hi Paul_Thomas,

Yes, this also prevents you in using the warranty. The warranty is only entitled to the original purchaser of the device.

Well at last an admission from Netgear

Why on earth should any manufacturer wish to "avoid" their customers reselling their products as used?

I just bought a new car......if I sell it the buyer will enjoy the remainder of the warranty

I have to agree, It's a very strange policy.

I've alway bought HP laptops partly because of their 3 year transferable warranty.
