Unable to set up a share or access remotly

OK, just typed everything out to explain the problem and when I went to post it came up authentication failed.... so I am going to give a quick account of my issue.

Before doing an update to firmware 6.5.1 I had no issue accessing my NAS

Before being force to propogate to MyNetgear access to the NAS remotely was easy.

I could create shares and tempory shares with no issues.

Lost access to the NAS on an internal network via a web browser to gain access to settings as for setting up shares. Could only access via IP address using windows explorer.

Remembered I had not changed the default admin settings and managed to access the settings via that. All accounts setup prior to firmware upgrade were gone. Remade all accounts and can now access the settings via a web browser as normal.

However, I am unable to access the NAS remotely. Where I used to go to the https://readycloud.netgear.com web page and access my NAS from there I have had to upgrade to the MyNetgear account and all I get in the browser now is the internal IP address in the address bar and nothing showing in the window. Blank. No files, no folders, nothing.

I also used to be able to right click on a file/ folder and grant a client access to the item via a link and password. I was also able to grant a limit on how many times they could access it. This option is also now not available.

So, in short. I am unable to setup a remote access to the NAS at all.

Any help is greatfully received.

As a side to this, I run my own I.T. company and this should be easy but I suspect I am being extremly dumb because I have been on this for over as fortnight and when I called Netgeartech support I was faced with a barrage of you need to pay to sort this out. Sorry, but it worked perfectly until you changed the firmware and way I log on.

  • OK, an update. Just went to log onto the NAS to get to the settings. Going to have a look through after a cup of tea. Unable to log onto my account again. But I can log on using the default username and password. My account now shows as it being a user. Not an admin. Changed the password again and still can not log on with my credentials. Is it me or does this NAS unit need a beating?????

Are you accessing the NAS locally (https://nasname/admin or https://nasipname/admin)?  If so, are you using "admin" as the username?

  • I have a similar problem with me Homenetwork. After I made all the upgrades to the new firmwares I can not log onto my HomeNetwork ReadyNAS. The ReadyNAS remote icon on my desktop has disappeared. My system is dual system, I have Windows 10 on top of Parrallel 11, on my Mac Mini. This all worked fine until the upgrade. Thanks PC1staid for making this problem public

Hi StephenB, I can only get logged into the NAS as user name admin and password is password. I can no longer make my account (PC1staid) an admin account. I can make a user account but using my user name and password I can not log into the NAS at all. As for the temporary account for the client it now comes up on the right click as create a weblink ( go figure). I am sure it was just share before.

If I tried to log on within my internal network I could only access using windows explorer and putting in the ip address ( 192.168.1.103) and see the folders. I was unable to get into the settings. Now I am able to get in but all the user accounts I had on it were gone. I made my account again but when I tried to access again was unable to.

Since I have tried at home, I can now get access and make temp shares, but only log into the NAS using the default user name and password.

jallen62, I have been reading the forum since my post and it seams this is quite a comon issue. As a side line to this, when I spoke to Netgear customer services, I was informed that the technical support team are aware of this issue and are able to assist "without" charge. should anyone wish to listen to the call, I have it recorded.

You should change the admin password to something else - both for security reasons, and because it will allow you to access the full data volume using the admin credentials.

You are saying that the accounts are missing from https://192.168.1.103/admin ???

  • I can't seem to be able to access my home network remotely from my phone wail away from my house. I set everything up for the remote access but when I try to login to the netgear geni app to use the remote access it keeps saying no Internet connection detected. I'm not sure what else to do. Can anyone help me out with this problem.
