upgraded FW 6.9.2 - SMB/CIFS won't mount, AFP will

after upgrading the firmware to 6.9.2 one of our shares will no longer mount on any of out Macs which are all running high sierra.

AFP will mount fine

SMB/CIFS will not mount at all and throws an error.

Cannot find a solution.

The Egnyte app was completely removed by the firmware upgrade, and this stopped both the egnyte sync to the cloud (obviously!) but also removed access to the folder itself - which is why we could not connect to it over ournetwork.

Egnyte tech support logged into the NAS and re-installed the app via SSH

All is now working as planned and back to normal.

  • to follow up, this is the error message I receive when trying to connect to the share using SMB or CIFS - but it works fine with AFP.

It makes no sense at all.

  • I've now looked in the SMB system logs and I can see the following error message:

    [2018/02/08 11:41:06.688132, 0] ../source3/smbd/service.c:623(make_connection_snum)
    vfs_init failed for service ELC

I don't know what this means, but it's obviously the problem as that's the share I am trying to connect to, and failing to do so.

    Help would be most appreciated.

  • I have now also seen that our EGNYTE app has been disabled on one NAS, and completely removed and no longer available to install on the other.

It is therefore my opinion that it is entirely the NAS devices that have gone wrong based on the firmware upgrade to 6.9.2

I cannot see how it is possible to downgrade the firmware to a previous version.

This is a major issue for us! Moderators, please help!
