Upgrading NVX disk to Pro 4 OS6 ?
Ive just got a Pro 4, which Ive been informed uses ReadyNas OS 6
I've loaded it with disks from my old NVX and its booting up ok, and providing Frontview/Raidiator 4
Just a couple of questions..
To upgrade to OS6, is it just a case of doing a system restore (obviously formatting the disks in the process)?
Is OS6 in the firmware on the chassis?
Ive noticed I can also download a OS6 zipfile but Im not sure what to do with it. Would I use this to upgrade the OS *after* Ive installed, or should I be using this prior to a system restore ?
Thanks

- DanthemNETGEAR Employee RetiredHello Carpi,
Pro 4 does not by default run OS 6 - are you sure it's a Pro 4 you got and not a 314? They should be hard to get from a reseller nowadays.
There are ways to get OS 6 on a Pro device but it is not officially supported and you will be denied support, I'm sure you can find guides for it here on the forum. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe NVX is still under warranty, had a failed power supply and was replaced with a Pro 4 via RMA.
Unlike on the NVX, you can run OS6 on the Pro 4, but as Danthem mentioned it is not officially supported. - vandermerweMasterAre you going to be using this device to hold the primary data? If so I would stick with Raidiator OS 4, the latest version of it is 4.2.27, available here:

You also presumably have some warranty left, another reason not to change to OS 6.
If you want to read a bit more about putting OS 6 onto legacy devices, then start here:

As it was my backup mirror NAS that went pop, I was planning on upgrading to OS6 and swapping them over, so the Pro 4 becomes my new Primary store, and my other NVX becomes the mirror
Ill still do this, but I think I'll probably just stick with Raidiator, and move to OS6 next time I upgrade devices (also means I dont have to rsync the disks from scratch again)
Cheers
