WOL with NIC Teaming
I have 3 x86 NASs (running 4.2.17) each with LACP NIC Bonding and WOL enabled. All three NASs are connected to a HP Procurve V1810g-24 switch also with LACP configured for the required ports.
Here is the deal. When teaming is enabled on both the switch and NAS, WOL never happens. When teaming is disabled on both and only one NIC is used WOL works fine. The problem is I'm not sure which to blame. The switch or the NAS.
In the last pic, you can see in the MAC Table that the two NICs of the ReadyNASs have two MACs. But, in the ReadyNAS teaming settings they share one MAC (as I think it would if it was bonded). I did submit a case with HP and started working with them to see if it's on their side.
Any thoughts?

- MarcusFNETGEAR EmployeeSuspect this will not work because when readynas is off the bond on the switch will show down but still configured and ports active so the switch may not try to send the WOL packets out the now down lag interface / member ports. The LAg would not be up because when readynas is asleep the bonding driver is not active.
Would need to test on Netgear switch but would suspect we would behave same
Make sense? - Thanks for the reply OptimusPrime.
I tried the same setup on my Netgear GS724Tv3 (LACP enabled) and the WoL worked no problem.
I have other issues with the GS724Tv3 so I won't use it as my main switch but I wanted to test this scenario on it.
So it looks like an issue with the HP Procurve 1810. Will keep you posted though. - MarcusFNETGEAR EmployeeAs I know a little about switch what is other problem with GS724Tv3
- The web GUI becomes broken and inaccessible.
Case numbers 15569849, 15602170 and 15690045.
Netgear forum thread...
http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=65954 - Jetlag1GuideSorry to revive and old thread, but I have the exact same switch and am getting ready to set up a trunk on it for teaming my Pro ports.
Curious as to what solution you found (if any)?
Also, which teaming option (on the Pro) did you find the best performance/reliability using?
Thanks. - I never found a resolution with the HP V1810g-24. HP support basically just blew me off. They sent me a firmware revision that wasn't posted on their website but didn't know if the revision included any fix for WoL with LAG. After that didn't work, they just said "we'll look into it" and closed the case. I haven't heard from them since.
I'm using the Netgear GS724Tv3 switch as my main now because the GUI lockup was fix via a firmware update and is now running stable.
I tried many different bonding types but settled back with LAG because I felt it offered the best performance and I received fewer network error.
Good luck and keep me posted on your progress. - Jetlag1GuideI went with a two port LACP trunk on my 1810G-24, running my Pro in 802.3ad LACP Layer 2.
Seems to be working fine so far. - Are you able to WoL with that configuration?
Also what firmware are you running in it?
I was running P2.2 and they sent me P2.3.
I saw your network diagram on Netgear's "win a PoE switch" Facebook post.... Impressive! Looks like you've done some upgrading since the previous "post your setup" thread. - Jetlag1GuideJust the 802.3ad layer 2 LACP 2 port Trunk.
Normally I access it via mapped share or by using 'Remote'.
Did not try WoL.
Running RAIDar 4.3.3, RAIDiator 4.2.19, HP 1810G-24 FW P2.2 - If you get a chance, try WoL with LACP enabled. I want to verify it wasn't something unique in my setup. Otherwise it worked flawless for me but I needed WoL functionality.
