Write STALLS on first try
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit SP1 with a ReadyNAS Pro 6x1TB (Seagate Enterprise drives with RAIDiator-x86 4.2.19). These are coupled directly via a Netgear GS105 switch.
I've been having the following issue for a while (not new to 4.2.19 upgrade):
When I initiate a large write (either many small files, or a few very large ones) using Windows Explorer to simply "drag" to a mapped NAS network volume, I get a LONG delay before the copy actually starts. Once it starts, I get good performance (up to 100MBytes/sec.). I've checked extensively with IOMeter, and get fairly typical performance (i.e. pretty good).
If I click "CANCEL" in the file copy dialog (again, that takes a while...), then immediately retry the copy, it proceeds without a delay, with good performance. This behavior is fully repeatable - happens EVERY time...
Any ideas?

- victorhortaliveAspirantI used to have this problem. It's due to something in your network setup, usually wrt the IP address/NAS or PC name not being instantly recognised.
I solved the problem by reinstalling all the network drivers and making sure they were the latest. Adjusting the settings on the switch also helped, but your switch is unmanaged I think. Try turning Jumbo Frames off and/or enabling Flow Control.
Are your IP addresses DHCP derived ? If not, try that.
Also see if a direct connection has the same problem - I bet it doesn't.

Yes, I'm using DHCP throughout, and my switch is indeed "dumb" (unmanaged). Based on your reply I tried something: I renewed ALL DHCP addresses (using IPCONFIG), and I turned JUMBO frames OFF. Indeed the problem went away (for now).
I think I may well buy a fully managed switch with it's OWN DHCP server (I guess that's then a "router" no longer a simple switch). Thanks for the reply - it helped a LOT! - victorhortaliveAspirantGlad to see it works better.
I have Netgear GS108tV1 switches, but the DHCP is still provided by my Modem/Router - a Linksys AM200.
Don't forget to have a look at the NIC drivers also.
In my experience Routers are pretty poor at switching so better to get a decent switch and connect the Router into the switch.
