Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

I have purchased four of these Wireless Access Points without realising that I require to purchase a controller to manage these thinking they were stand alone devices.  What is the most inexpensive controller I require to purchase to make these things work.  The WC7600 is far to powerfull for what I require.  What are my options please.

Hi Murrayfield,

Welcome to the community! 🙂

I'm afraid to inform you that the WN730 can only be managed by the WC7600 wireless controller.  Since you need a standalone access point, I suggest the WAC510 access point.  Kindly check its specification and comparison with other NETGEAR access points on the data sheet here

Re: Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

Hi DaneA

Thanks for the info.  I did a bit more research in between posting the question and receiving your reply and I have a query.  One of the documents I searched on came up with the following (page 2)  https://www.netgear.com/images/pdf/WC7500_DS_30Mar16.pdf which seems to show support for the WN370 by the WC7500.  Well I hope so 'cos I have bought one 😉

Cheers

Ian

Re: Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

@Murrayfield,

Yes, the WC7500 also supports the WN370.  From my previous response to you, I have based my answer on page 1 of the WN370 installation guide here where it says "The WN370 access point can only be deployed in a network managed by a ProSAFE WC7600 wireless controller" under the section of 'Set Up the Access Point.'

Re: Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

Hi
I can categorically say that the wc7500 will manage the wn370 I managed to get four working today. The first two were easy but the second two were a problem. In the end I rebooted the wc7500 then plugged in each AP individually factory reset the AP found it on the controller then edited the AP and the WC to fit into my network op address scheme. Worked a treat

Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

I just have bought THREE wn370 to realize that I need to buy also a @#!? additional "machine" to have them configured. Is there any other mean to configure them? telnet? https? ftp?. When they first are powered I presume they send a DHCP discover and "WireSharking" the communications (yes, I have a primitive HUB not SWITCH that can propagate packets) so I could know their IPs. No chance?

Re: Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

Hi,

WN370 can only be managed and configured by the following WLAN controllers.

WC7500, WC7600, WC7600v2, WC9500. You have to buy one of these controllers to make WN370 work, and there is no other option to configure it.

Re: Pro Safe Wireless Access Point WN370

So no chance with the "http://192.168.0.160" that is used to obtain the logs when a WC cannot discover the unit? :

The WC7600 Cannot Discover or Manage the Access
Point
If the WC7600 cannot discover or manage the access point, you can log in to the
access point to troubleshoot and download the system log. NETGEAR support will
use the system log to help diagnose any problems with the access point.
Note:
The WN370 has DHCP enabled by default and receives an IP address if you
have a DHCP server in your network. If you have a DHCP server in your network,
use the address assigned to the WN370 to log in to the access point.
To log in to the access point and download the system log:
1.Configure a computer with the following IP options:
•IP address. 192.168.0.22
•Subnet mask. 255.255.255.0
•Default gateway. 192.168.0.1
2.Enter http://192.168.0.160 or your access point’s assigned IP address into a
browser.
3.Log in to the access point using the following default credentials:
•ID. admin
•Password. password
