What is the range of each Access Point attatched to the WC7520 - ProSafe 20-AP Wireless Controller ?

Hey,

I've looked everywhere, but I can't find the range that the Access Points have..

I need to know how many I would need.. Does the signal for each one cover a 10m radius or a 20m radius for example...

Thanks!

  • Hi danpool,

About spreading out the wireless connection over an area, you will need to do RF planning.  Kindly read pages 41 to 50 of the WC7520 reference manual here.

What NETGEAR ProSAFE Access Point model will you use with the WC7520 wireless controller?  If ever you have WNDAP360 access points, according to the review I read online, it says that strong signal strength from a distance of 75 feet can be achieved within a laboratory environment.  Here is the link about the review on the WNDAP360 access point.

    Hi danpool,

    Welcome to the community! :)

I don't think the wireless range of the Access Point will be lengthen if its connected to a Wireless Controller.  The wireless range of a certain Access Point will stay the same even if its managed by a Wireless Controller.

      Hey,

Thanks for the message. I thought that's what the access points were for? For spreading out the connection over an area, such as a school.

Essentially, all I'm wondering is what I would need to purchase to cover a big multi story office building.

If I knew how much each device could cover in metres then I could work it out.

I must be completely missunderstanding this technology..I thought you just get one controller and then spread out the connection using access points..

      Cheers

    Hi,

Thanks for your queries.  You can also reach out to your NETGEAR pre-sales contact and they can offer a no fee service for remote site survey.  When you send them the floor plan of your premise and inform them the type of wall constructions and environment, NETGEAR can provide a response with a complete remote site survey report with identification of the number of AP's you need and the expected coverage.

    Hope this helps.
