C7000 as Wifi router

Hi, I would like to know if it's possible to use the C7000 3.0 as a Wifi router only since I got the new Spectrum modem 3.1 and how to do it?

Thank you

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

what speeds do you pay for?
Might not need anything as it should still hit 600-800mbps on spectrum. the C7000 has a pretty solid modem and it might just be spectrum pushing you to upgrade.

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

there isn't a way.

there's a way to make it a makeshift access point but you'd still need a router to manage it then.

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

I see, I guess I won't have choice but to buy a new router... Unless I keep my C7000 if it's possible, on the Spectrum mail it says that if the new modem 3.1 is not installed the service will be interrupted, but then I asked online and the guy told me that I can stil keep my C7000...

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

Since the C7000 is only DOCSIS 3.0, the ISP maybe cutting off support for these versions of DOCSIS. 3.1 has been out for a while now. DOCSIS is working on 4.0 some where down the road. I would recommend probably ditching the C7000 and find you a 3.1 supporting modem only unit. Then get you a external wifi router system, RAX, XR, MK MESH or Orbi MESH system. You have more management over external wifi routers systems than built in modem gateways.

I wasn't aware of that at all, thanks.

So I will look for a router and use the Spectrum modem I guess.

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

Can do that or ask the ISP which NG CM series modem is supported by them and you could connect it. If you wanted to avoid any rental fees from the ISP.

Good Luck.

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

I asked Spectrum and the guy told me that the modem is for free but I could rent them the router.  I'm sceptical since it's written "leased" on the modem box...

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

I only have the "Internet 100" (Speeds at 100 Mbps Free internet modem and no data caps).

Re: C7000 as Wifi router

If all you have is 100-200mbps, the C7000 would handle it no problem. Upgrading modems isn't going to make the speed any faster since the bottleneck in speed isn't the modem.

But if you want to spend the extra money to upgrade, feel free. But you won't see much improvements in speed since that router can max out 100mbps no problem.
