CM1100

So we have Astound (RCN) 1GB service, Modem says on their end can do 1.3gb.  I have modem and my router (Asus RT-AX86S) in Wan Link aggregation.  When I look up CM1100 via Netgear site, says modem is Muli-Gig.  So what I'm asking is what is the max speed I can order for this modem? Also RCN says they don't have the means to update my firmware.  Currently have V7.01.01, current FW is V10.01.07.  They claim there is possibly bugs in newer FW, I said and you think V7 doesn't have any since they moved on to v10?  They have no words.  So if anyone can explain any of this, I'd appreciate, and thanks in advance.

Re: CM1100

If you have something that can saturate the bandwidth to get over 1Gb between the CM modem and host router with both configured for WAN LAG between them, and if you have something that can access this speed beyond 1Gb on the WLAN or LAN side of the host router, then go for it.

ALL ISPs are responsible for FW being tested on there networks and certifying it for use with users connected modems. Users have no access to update FW on C and CM series modems whatsoever. That is all handled by ISPs after NG develops the modem FW and passes it off to ISPs for testing and certification on there networks. Be aware that some ISP have provisions and policies in place that they may not update user owned modems. Seems to vary from ISP to ISP. Something you'll need to talk to the ISP about.

well something doesn't line up.

according to  The Official Chart,  V7.01.01 is for the CM1000.

if  that's  what you really have, likely it won't support Link Aggregation.

Re: CM1100

So seems like the CM and your router is setup for LAG and is working.

Only item that you be limited by is the LAN ports on your router, those being all 1Gb max supporting so you'll not see anything much past 900Mpbs as far as speed testing:

RT-AX86S:
RJ45 for 10/100/1000 BaseT for WAN x 1
RJ45 for 10/100/1000 BaseT for LAN x 4
Five (5) 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports
-- LAN: 4xGbE (2x port aggregation LAN)
-- WAN: 1 GbE
-- Multi-Gig: Ability to aggregate two Gigabit LAN ports and two Gigabit WAN ports (configurable) concurrently.

To get past this limitation, you'll need a different router that supports multi gig WAN AND LAN Ports beyond 1Gb.

You may see over 1Gb if you have some wireless devices that support 4x4 MIMO thru this router.

WiFi Data Rate
802.11a : up to 54 Mbps
802.11b : up to 11 Mbps
802.11g : up to 54 Mbps
WiFi 4 (802.11n) : up to 450 Mbps
WiFi 4 (802.11n) (1024QAM) : up to 750 Mbps
WiFi 5 (802.11ac) (1024QAM) : up to 4333 Mbps
WiFi 6 (802.11ax) (2.4GHz) : up to 861 Mbps
WiFi 6 (802.11ax) (5GHz) : up to 4804 Mbps

Those rates require 4x4 or higher supporting devices.
