Connectivity? issues with C7000|Nighthawk - AC1900

The issue I'm having is when I try to use my roku in my bedroom with Youtube TV the picture freezes for 20-30 seconds every few seconds and every so often would tell me to check my connection. I switched to Nextflix on the roku to see if it was the roku, Netflix played just fine. I took a look at the connection and it said I was getting 67 mbps download, which isnt great as im sitting next to it on my phone getting 100+, but still should be enough to watch YTTV.

Also, in the living room when I stream YYTV, Hulu, etc., the sound is desynced for a while, and then fixes itself.

a little background

I have Comcast Internet and was getting a little over 200mbps with the comcast modem but I wanted to save some money and not rent the router so I bought a Nighthawk C7000 which is on the comcast compatible list.

I have my desktop hardwired and am getting the 200+mbps I pay for. Sitting next to the modem, I get about the same on my phone, and in my bedroom and living room I get mid to high 100s connected to the 5ghz network. 2.4ghz only gives about 50 mbps.

In the living room, I can stream YTTV, hulu and nextflix with no problem, except for the sound desync. None of this ever happened when I was using the comcast modem. Is there some setting I need to change or anything on the modem?

Are you connecting your roku to the 5ghz?

have you tried changing wifi channels? If you're on the lower 5ghz, try the higher 149+ channels.

Some apps will dynamically change their resolution (like netflix) based on bandwidth available. It might be why its working with some apps and not others.

Are you using mu-mimo?

Yes, the roku is connected to the 5ghz.

No I havent changed channels yet, the 5gzh worked well on my phone, so I didnt want to mess with it. Is there a rhyme or reason to the channel numbers or just go through them and see which works best?

Netflix worked flawlessly, the picture was crisp and never studdered or buffered or anything, with YTTV, the picture was decent for the most part, when it was running, but it would freeze for longer intervals when it was actually working for.

Whats Mu-mimo?

Is there a port or something that needs opening?

Usualy 5ghz is more resilent because it doesn't broadcast as far but if your neighbor is on the same 5ghz channel, it can cause slow downs. I've also read (can't remember where) that some roku's respond more favorably to the 149+ channels.

I think the C7000 supports beamforming but I don't think mu-mimo.

If its a port issues, the YTTV forum would know which one.

Ok, Ill play with the channels when I get home thanks.

I believe it does support beamforming, what does that do?

So I looked at the settings and beamforming is already enabled and Im also already on channel 157. I played around with the ones over 150 and that seems to be the best one.

You can try the lower channels and see how well they work.
