Netgear CM1000
I bought the CM1000 off eBay and It seems to be dead.
The modem is constantly blinking power (green), downstream(amber), upstream(amber), internet(amber), and solid amber network.
Is this dead modem? or does it need to be plugged into the cable for extended time for ISP firmware update?
thank you.

Have you tried to hold the reset button for 10+ seconds?

Re: Netgear CM1000
After chatting with a Netgear CSR, and reading a few forum posts.
I've concluded that the modem has corrupted firmware, thus cannot be repaired without a special device.

Re: Netgear CM1000
Hi Kylaris,
The FW is not corrupted based on the LED pattern you stated. The devide is not activated to your cable internet service provider.
Have you tried calling your service provider and provide the Cable modem model number, Serial number and MAC address?

Re: Netgear CM1000
The lights on my CM1000 are doing the same thing. It doesn't even try to sync up with RCN. RCN tech support says they never see it try to sync.
You can see the light pattern on my modem at https://youtu.be/hxHL3XHlZv0

Re: Netgear CM1000
Hi dem107,
Since you purchased the CM1000 from ebay, do you have any information if this modem used to another cable company? Once the cable modem installed to a previous ISP, the modem has a customer FW.

"Have you tried calling your service provider and provide the Cable modem model number, Serial number and MAC address? "
Of course, that was the first thing I tried.
The CSR said, "she could see the modem but cannot connect". So a technician came by and conclude that the FW on the modem was bad.

So once the modem has been flashed by one company's fw, then it won't take another company's fw?

Re: Netgear CM1000
Hi kylaris,
Check the Cable modem status by accessing the default IP address 192.168.0.1.
The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
Click the ADVANCED tab. The ADVANCED Home page displays information about your cable modem
Check the Firmware Version installed.

Re: Netgear CM1000
Hi Kylaris,
Please contact the ebay seller and ask if cable modem has been de-activated from his account before selling. If the seller still has the cable modem tied to his account or the modem MAC on their file that creates a problem during new activation.
The type of IP and configuration info get pushed to modem when it goes through activation.

Re: Netgear CM1000
The manual says the default IP address is 192.168.100.1. Is that incorrect?

Re: Netgear CM1000
I connected my computer directly to the modem and set my computer's IP address to 192.168.100.2. The modem doesn't respond.

Re: Netgear CM1000
I can't ping it. It doesn't seem like the interface on the modem is up at all. My computer doesn't even show a working Ethernet connection.
