It looks like you're testing over wireless.

What speeds do you get over a wired device? That's the key as many factors influence wireless and can reduce speeds.

And have you tried other test servers? Speedtest.net doesn't always saturate gigabit. Try speedtest.xfinity.com

I've got the CAX80 and can pull 1000-1150mbps over the 2.5gig port.

it's not the wifi the speeds I'm getting is 125Mbps the internal speed tester says 450Mbps when I pay for 1gig but I use wifi 6 on my Samsung s10 with the provided router from Xfinity and pull 800mbps they came out and said nothing is wrong with the wiring so it has to be Netgears problem with the software I use Xfinity speed tester and it says 125 Mbps so it's not Xfinity when their service works just fine over wireless with their router either it's how Netgear sets up their cable settings don't work with Comcast when it says it works with Comcast gig service

        1. The built in speed test app rarely maxes out speeds. It uses speedtest and regularly chooses servers that are close but don't max out speeds. Its an issue netgear is aware of.

        2. What devices is getting 125mbps? Is it on 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

        3. Your samsung s10 is getting 800mbps over wireless? that's pretty impressive for wireless.

        4. Do you have a hardwired device to test with? And what device is it? again, that's the key because wireless won't max it out and the built in testing isn't going to either.

        5. Yes I do have xfinity. I can max out the gigabit link at 940(ish)mbps and my 2.5/5/10gbps link will max out 1150mbps. Thats on xfinity's speedtest site. And it does work fine with comcast.

do you have Xfinity because everyone that got this that I see from Xfinity says that it has problems?
  • I bought my cax80 last week. I have the xfinity gig service and am getting horrible wifi 100 mn or less. I tried every single channel on 5ghz. Directly connected getting around 300 to 400. Still bad for gig service. Xfinity said everything is fine on their end. Netgear has to fix this or I'm returning it
  • I have the same problem here. Netgear send a new CAX80 but still the same slow speeds.

What devices are you using to speed test?

Try a wired PC or laptop to check wired speeds first.

Install wifi sweet spots app on your wireless device to check connection rate between the wireless device and CAX. This is just a connection rate, not speed testing the bandwidth.

  • I have this same problem. Xfinity says everything is fine on their end. I have a hardwired pc that is only getting 200-300 mbps when I have gigabyte internet. I've owned several netgear router/modems, and I swear they all have issues. I'm going to return this cax80 if this doesn't get figured out fast. . .

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status page.
Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

  • You're lucky to get 700+. I barely get 400+ when my ISP plan is 1200Mbps.

    Any luck fixing this?

How are you speed testing? Wired or wireless?

What devices are you using to speed test with?

        Thanks for your reply.

My firmware is the latest 2.1.2.6. I'm testing wireless on 5GHz with my iPhone 12 Pro standing right in front of the router.

My concerned is this.....I used to own an eero Pro router that has also a built-in speedtest, and I was getting normal 940-950Mbps, being that the eero Pro max speed is 1Gbps. I bought this CAX80 because it can handle more than 1Gbps speeds, since I have a 1200Mbps plan with Xfinity, and I figured in the future will be able to support even faster speeds.

When I made the switch I found nothing but problems, at first the app was'nt able to connect or it will be very slow, so I had to do 2 factory resets to finally get it to work ok. But the speeds are still not going over 400Mbps.

In conclusion, when I test with other routers I get much faster speeds (almost double) using the same devices and under same conditions compared to when I test with this CAX80 device.

        Thanks for your help.
