are you connecting the ethernet cable from nbn box to WAN (the red port on back of modem / router)?

Yep. The NBN ethernet cable goes into the Red "Internet" port.

Someone has had a similar experience and got nowhere with Netgear.

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
Hi,
I am looking to buy this modem and I was just wondering if you have a VoIP adapter set up for a landline as the x4s doesn't have a port?
Regards

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
Hi Again,
UPDATE
For VoIP to work you need to use the modem the ISP provide but turn off wireless and DHCP. Some companies (Iinet I Think) work with an ATA but in general, it seems it would just be easier to use the modem they supply for the phone and link it to a third party modem (Netgear).
http://www.ethertech.com.au/telstra-nbn-woes-with-voip-and-solution-for-3rd-party-routers/
The link above explains it for Telstra but I''m pretty sure it will be the same for all companies.

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
Hey TheMotionMan
I am on Velocity with Telstra and not NBN. It is still FTTH though and we have the box in the garage etc. You say to get a Taipan but the Taipan is a router only. Don't we need a modem as well? I got the Telstra Gateway Max which i believe is a modem router and I connect it from the wall socket to the modem via the WAN port RJ45 I think. It works fine but I can't enter Static routes for Netflix and the firewall rules won't work so I was going to buy o Netgear D7000 or D7800 as they are modem routers. Do you have a seperate modem set up and then connect the Taipan or don't we need a modem on Fibre?

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
No, the Taipan is a Modem and Wired/Wireless Router.
It is used on a FTTN connection so you need a phone line.
6 months now no issues and super fast 95mbs down and 45mbs up.

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
Thanks fur the reply. I get why we can't use it. We are ftth and not fttn. We don't have a telephone line to plug in. We can only connect via the wan port. Oh well. It was a pipe dream. I wonder then if the x4s will work for me given the difference in the type if fibre. Thanks

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
So anyone else got this thing working? Just purchased it via ebay thinking I got a good buy until I couldn't get the thing to connect to the interent. I am FTTN and have had rock solid connection with the modem router that came free with my plan. Just thought I'd upgrade more, but apparently this is an expensive paperweight.
Plugged it all in, no connection. Web Genie doesn't work. Can't get into the system in any way so not sure how to update it or access the system settings.

unfortunately i bought it on ebay can't return it. might use it as a router and keep my old one as a modem bridge. what a bloody waste of money.

I can choose Australia as my country but I'm with loadednet so have to choose "other". Then I just get the sad face. That's it

Re: Nighthawk X4s and Australian NBN - FFTN doesn't work.
bought this modem a few days ago and same issues. Disconnects on the link light all day long. Accessing the home page seems to drop the link.
I got 7800's for home and for office and neither are usable considering both are now switched on to FTTN NBN. Also my Telstra Gateway max which im forced to use until this is fixed never loses the link.
