Ports not opening after being forwarded.
Hey there, I'm having some issues with my router. Its a model DGND3700v2.
I would like to set up a private server on my pc, to host games over lan for a Lan party.
I have set up the private server correct, and it can be viewed by the other pc's on the network. However they cannot connect.
I've googled the error, and its due to ports not forwarding I'm pretty sure.
I've opened my router settings, given my pc a static ip, added custom services in the 'firewall' settings, after that I clicked the button saying 'inbound services' and set up custom rules for port forwarding. I've followed the guide found here on this website.
However, when I use this site: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
and check the three ports I want opened, aka, 5121, 6121, 6900, they all appear closed.
I'm unsure of how to do any other checks, via my pc or a site to check if the ports are opened or not.
Help please.

Re: Ports not opening after being forwarded.
Apart from setting up port forwarding on the router, there are two other important requirements to fulfill before a port test will report success.
- The router's Internet/WAN port must have a public IP address. The following are NOT public IP addresses:
- 192.168.x.x
- 10.x.x.x
- 172.16.x.x through 172.31.x.x
- 100.64.x.x through 100.127.x.x
- The PC must be listening to the ports in question. In your case, that probably means that the game should be running and ready to host a game.

Ok. Let's pretend that I know what that means.

I don't know what that means. Which "private server" did you set up,
and how do you know that you did it correctly, whatever you did? Define
"viewed by the other pc's on the network". Define "cannot connect".
As usual, showing actual commands, or describing actual actions, with
their actual results (error messages, ...) can be more useful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Which "the error" is that? You say "over lan for a Lan party." If
all the computers involved are on your LAN, then they should be able to
talk to each other without the router being involved. Port forwarding
is used to allow communication from the outside world (not in the LAN)
with a system which is within the LAN.
In my experience, people who talk about "ports I want opened" often
don't understand the problem. A port looks "closed" when there's no
server program listening at that port. All the port forwarding in the
world won't help you if, at the end of the line, no one is listening at
that port number.
If you can provide a clearer explanation of what you're trying to do,
then there may be some hope of diagnosing the problem (if there really
is one).

Re: Ports not opening after being forwarded.
So I checked the is my port open site, while the server was running, like you advised, and hey, the ports are open.
Thank you for your help.
I still dont know why my ports arent connecting, but at least I know they're open.
Thank you!
