Wireless Access Point for DGND3700v2

Hi all

I am new to advanced networking and would really appreciate some assistance setting up my Netgear DGND3700v2 as a wireless access point (I think that is the right terminology).

I have recently received a new Modem Router (TP-link AC1600 Archer VR1600v) which will now be my main modem router.

I would like to use my Netgear DGND3700v2 to improve my wifi range upstairs. I would like to keep the same SSID so that we don't have to change networks between upstairs/downstairs. I can't run an ethernet upstairs so the Netgear. Can the Netgear act as an access point, connecting wirelessly and broadcasting on the same SSID? Do I need to change any settings in the TP-link and what should I be setting on the Netgear?

Any specific information is greatly appreciated, all the reading on other forums is confusing me more.

The DGND3700v2 can only be a wireless repeater. Check the advanced setup options.

Here's a link to the manual, check page 104

The manual implies that it must be wired so you might be able to do it if you use a powerline ethernet extender.

Huh?  In that User Manual, look for "AP Mode".  Page 99?

However, a wireless access point uses a wired connection (or
equivalent) to the main router.

Seems to use a non-standard meaning for "wireless access point".
Also, if that mode of operation actually requires all wireless-network
security to be disabled (or restricts it to the obsolete WEP), which is
how I read those instructions, then I wouldn't consider it.

If an actual Ethernet cable is not practical, then using a pair of
Powerline adapters to emulate an Ethernet cable might let you configure
the DGND3700v2 as a (true) WAP.
