IPv6 with FVS336Gv2

Hello,

I need some help to configure my setup.

I have the "Cisco EPC3208G EuroDocsis 3.0 2-PORT Voice Gateway" for my internet connection. Recently my ISP switched to IPv6 DS-lite. So basicly I just have an IPv6 now. I upgraded my Netgear FVS336Gv2 to the newest firmware, as it hadn't IPv6 support yet. Now it has. But I cannot make it work propperly.

I am not an network specialist, so I tried a few things out.

1. I tried to set the Cisco EPC3208G EuroDocsis 3.0 2-PORT Voice Gateway in "Bridge" Mode. This does not work as this option is blocked by my ISP (it will auto reset into DHCP mode).

2. When i connect my devices directly to the Cisco, I get both, IPv6 and Ipv4 addresses to my device, and I can also see them on http://ip6.me. This is good. However, I cannot configure much at Cisco, because the firmware is modded, and old (from Nov 6 08:54:06 2012, I dont get any updates form ISP). So I wish i can use my Netgear, to configure firewall and so on.

3. When I connect the DHCP Cisco to WAN1 from Netgear, I get IPv4 but no IPv6 DNS servers. This is what the IPv6 connection tab looks like:

Connection Time:Not Yet Available
Connection Type:Dynamic IP (DHCP)
Connection State:Connecting...
IPv6 Address:2a02:XXXX:XXXX:XXX..../64, fe80::c63d:XXX:XXX:XXX:XXX/64
Gateway:fe80::bec8:XXXX:XXX:XXX
DNS Server(IPv6):
Secondary DNS Server(IPv6):

I am very new to IPv6 and I don't understand it completly. I read a lot but still, a bit confusing. Maybe you need more info to help me. Please ask me if you need any other info (I dont know what info I need to tell).

But basicly, I want this setup:

Internet --> Cisco --> Netgear --> Home Network (IPv4 and IPv6)

so I can also reach my raspberry from outside (for example). Because I just have an outside IPv6 address, no IPv4 address.

Thanks so much!

Re: IPv6 with FVS336Gv2

Thank you so much!

Well, it turns out, that my ISP router is not capple of the "bridge mode" it is basicly NAT -> NAT and that doesn't seem to work. So I only tried the Cisco and it works good with IPv6. Is there a way I can use my Netgear Firewall just as "Firewall"? (so no NAT, no DHCP, just a "hardware firewall"). Because the Cisoc just  have 2 Firewall options: ON and OFF. No filters, nothing. So I would love to use the Netgear only (!) as firewall. Is it possible? If yes, how do I need to configure it?

Sorry for my bad English, if you have any questions please ask me! 🙂

@ChocoFruit,

In using the FVS336Gv2 as firewall-only device, you may try to disable DHCP on it as well as do not use its VPN capability.
