is there a walkthrough to allow RDP?

Re: RDP port forwarding FVS336GV3

Hi sparticus,

Welcome to the community! 🙂

Kindly answer the questions below:

a. Is the WAN IP Address registered on the FVS336Gv3 a Public IP Address?

b. Is the modem connected to the WAN port of the FVS336Gv3 configured as a modem-only device or a combination of modem & router?

c. What is the current firmware version of your FVS336Gv3?

d. Have you tried to reboot the FVS336Gv3?

To verify if port 3389 is really open on the FVS336Gv3, you may access this link: http://www.subnetonline.com/pages/network-tools/online-port-scanner.php.  If the result shows "online/reachable" then it means that port 3389 is really open but if the result shows "offline/unreachable" then it means that it needs further troubleshooting.

Re: RDP port forwarding FVS336GV3

Hi,

FYI

The TPlink had port forwarding for RDP and CCTV etc which worked fine.

I wanted to add the netgear as a firewall.

I have moved the WAN cable out of my TPlink and disabled the TP link from DHCP.

The WAN cable now goes via the Netgear and the netgear box provides DHCP.

Answers below

thanks

  1. Is the WAN IP Address registered on the FVS336Gv3 a Public IP Address?

not sure how to tell. I have a fixed ip 185.156.41.14

  1. Is the modem connected to the WAN port of the FVS336Gv3 configured as a modem-only device or a combination of modem & router?

The wireless ISP network cable (not standard DSL modem/router) goes into the WAN of the netgear

The TPlink router is still on the LAN as a wireless access point

  1. What is the current firmware version of your FVS336Gv3?

4.3.1-14

  1. Have you tried to reboot the FVS336Gv3?

I have powered  rebooted loads of times. I have set security LAN/WAN rules

Port scan shows offline/unreachable

Re: RDP port forwarding FVS336GV3

Hi sparticus,

Based on your description it appears that the FVS336Gv3 is now the main firewall and DHCP server. To check if your FVS336Gv3 is getting a WAN IP go to Monitoring>Router Status and check the IP on WAN1 or WAN2 configuration. Now, going back to firewall rules go to Security>Firewall Rules>Inbound service click add.

On the Services drop down menu, select RDP and specify the LAN address of the computer which you want to have access remotely.

Apply the settings once done.

It should list down the RDP rule like the one pictured above. Make sure that it is on the topmost part of the table and there should be no entry with service name "ANY".

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks,

Re: RDP port forwarding FVS336GV3

Hello sparticus,

If that is the case, you'll need to add the RDP service manually. Please refer to the image below:

  • Add the service name - RDP
  • Type is TCP
  • Start port and Finish Port is 3389 (default RDP port but other ports can also be used as an alternative)
  • Default QoS is Normal-Service
  • The click on "Add"

Once done, you can go back to firewall rules and add the inbound rule again. You should be able to see the RDP service on the most bottom part of the drop-down menu.

Thanks,

Re: RDP port forwarding FVS336GV3

Hi,

I have done that and the RDP port is setup OK.

I have upgraded to latest firmware.

Still cannot RDP in, the open port test shows unavailable/offline
