Determining IP address assigned by router
Hello all...
In the Netgear initial setup guide: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/7200RS_7200_7300S_726_IGprt_09July09.pdf
For initial setup of our new GSM7224v2 switch:
"PC in DHCP Client Mode with DHCP Server
By default, the switch is configured as a DHCP client to obtain its IP address from a DHCP
server in the connected network. You must access the switch from the serial console port.
1. Make sure that the switch is connected to a DHCP server.
2. Find the switch IP address assigned by the DHCP server."
I have some network config experience, but this is first attempt at a full blown managed switch and router setup. If I have the GSM switch set in DHCP and it gets an IP from a wi-fi router (Linksys E4200), how do I find out what IP was assigned to the switch so I can access the web config?

- fordemMentorThe ip address should be listed in the routers attached devices page - power cycle the switch to force it to get an address and then go to the router and check the page.

since you've just setup the switch it should have the default MAC (which is on it's label)
When the DHCP server you're using assigns it an address it should supply what MAC address it gave what IP in the lease, no scanning... no extra crap just grabbing it the proper way.
Plus I don't know how the switch is setup by default or what firewalls you've got active but scans like hammering the network with ICMP could trigger some kinda packet drop for a limited amount of time so it's not the wisest of ideas.
