Error: Failed to delete SNTP Server and switch clock
Firmware: 6.1.0.9
Hi All,
The clock of L3 managed switch GSM7312 (firmware 6.1.0.9) is shown to be "Jan 1 00:00:00 1970".
I have three SNTP servers configured, which is the max limit. When checking from the CLI, the SNTP server address type is shown to be "unknown" instead of "IPv4", which seems to be causing the issue. Trying to delete the SNTP server from web interface shows "Error: Failed to delete SNTP Server". If I do "no sntp server 162.213.2.253" from CLI, it says "SNTP Server does not exist."
Firmware 6.2.0.14 release note says it has fixed an "update time" issue: (http://firmware.netgear-forum.com/index.php?changelog=913)
"SNTP Server Configuration pageAddress Type" field is mistakenly configured as "DNS", device fails to update the time"
At least for few months I won't be able to update the firmware since it's a critical switch and is being remotely managed.
Is there any workaround by which I could update the switch's clock?
If I can delete one of the SNTP server, then using an SNTP server with it's domain name and type "DNS" would probably fix the issue.
There is another thread with similar issue discussed at http://www.hivmr.com/db/j777c39xddf3pk1fkap7f81a3s39ajsm , but the follow up discussion is at http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=37201?db=5 for which I don't have privilege to access even after logging in as a community member.
Any workaround to update time would be helpful.
Thanks and Regards,
Vishnu

Hi vvram,
Welcome to the community! :)
From what I have understand on your initial post, you have not yet tried to upgrade the firmware from v6.1.0.9 to v6.2.0.14, am I right? If ever I'm correct, then I think the only work around / solution is to try to upgrade the firmware to v6.2.0.14 since the fix is already mentioned on the release notes. Be reminded that its recommended to perform a factory reset on the switch after a successful firmware upgrade then reconfigure it from scratch.
The old forum link you mentioned that you cannot access is now accessible. Kindly click here.

Hi DaneA,
Thanks for the prompt response.
Yes, I'm still on firmware v6.1.0.9. Firmware upgrade won't be possible at least for a month. That's why I'm looking
for a workaround. If I can delete one of the existing SNTP servers or increase the SNTP server limit, then I should be able to able to
add an SNTP server as type "DNS" (with domain name) which should solve the issue, I guess.
As of now, the SNTP server "Address type" is shown as "unknown" in the CLI.
In the POST request for deleting an SNTP server (through web interface), I tried modifying the "address_typ" as "unknown" (instead of "DNS") using a "burp proxy", but that didn't help.

Vishnu

Hi vvram,
Since you will be doing the firmware upgrade within the next month, kindly post an update if ever you have already performed it and let us know your observations as well.
