Hello all, hope you can help me.
I have a MS510TXM switch which I'm trying to connect to a Netgate 4200 Router. My issue is I cannot get a link light on the trunk port nor the router. Here is my setup:
Netgate 4200: WAN works perfectly, LAN works ONLY when I connect my laptop to it but I am able to access everything and setup my vlans. Right now I made one vlan 10 and created a rule to allow all traffic from anywhere through the vlan using the LAN port on the router. It works excellent, I can access the internet using my laptop and the link lights work. The DHCP server is handing out correct ip addresses.
Switch MS510TXM: From factory reset, I want to use port 8 as my trunk to the router, so I created vlan 10. My laptop is plugged in to port 5. There are no other devices plugged in.
Here are the port tags/pvid
Ports 1,2,3,4,6,7,9,10 are on the default vlan1 on the switch and not used at this moment
Port 5 is tagged, a member of vlan 10, with a pvid of 10. I removed vlan 1 membership from this port.
Port 8, is tagged, my trunk port, is a member of vlan 1 & 10 and the pvid is set to 1. I cant remove vlan 1 because the switch complains I will lose my management access and forces me to keep vlan 1.
Using this setup, I connected the switch to the router, but there is no connectivity or link light on trunk port 8. I've tried reboots on both devices, factory resets and nothing has worked. One thing I did try was I factory reset the switch, and connected it to the router with no configuration at all, as I assumed this should act as a dumb switch and allow all traffic to pass through, but it still wont connect to the router, it only connects devices. I think this has something to do with untagged vlan 1 on the switch. Anyone have any ideas I can try?
Thanks
Alforz

Link LED does indicate a successfully estblished or negotiated Ethernet physical link, independent pf the VLAN config.
Check your wiring, and the connected device config carefully.

Re: Unable to connect switch to pfsense appliance
Yup, it was a bad cable.
