Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
I also cast a big VOTE for your ReadyNAS 1100 to be able to receive notifications DIRECTLY from an APC 96xx series SNMP/Network Management card in APC Smart UPS.
To have to have a separate linux box running in order for your system to be able to know that the UPS is saying shut down makes absolutely ZERO business sense to me!

Gets my vote too. I have two APC UPS both with network cards and monitoring devices.

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
+1
Sure, I've made it work by running a nut relay on a Linux server nearby, which my old NV and shiny new Pro Business listen to, but that's a kludge which seems like an additional point of failure, and which I wish were unnecessary -- especially now that it's on the to-do list as I migrate to a new Linux box, and I need to remind myself how it was set up.
I'd really like to be able to point the Pro (I may retire the NV, so if there's any difference in potential support between the two platforms that's my priority) at the APC UPS's network card via a simple setting using the NAS's web interface.
Pretty please?

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
I'm not familiar with apc-snmp but it's not the same thing as apcupsd (http://apcupsd.org), which is the package many of us have been asking Netgear to support.

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
Solved at last! I'm now running apcupsd on a ReadyNAS 1100 with 4.1.6 firmware.
To do this I had to add ssh and root access packages from the Netgear support site. Once I'd ssh'd in as root, then I ran "apt-get update" and "apt-get install apcupsd." Then I configured /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf as appropriate for my setup. Then I started apcupsd by running "/etc/init.d/apcupsd start". That's it -- simple!
The one last step now is to decommission that extra NUT server I'd set up just for this one ReadyNAS device -- all our other stuff runs apcupsd.

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
thanks for the hint !
apcuspd works now on my pro pioneer too (with 4.2.7 !).
Any chance to get the ups-status information in frontview ?

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
Hello nycvelo,
I wonder how you got apcupsd to work in Debian Etch.
Am I right assuming that you
- used APC's PCNET protocol for easy communication between the UPS and the ReadyNAS?
- therefor had to use apcupsd version 3.14.x (earlier versions had no PCNET support)?
- therefor had a problem installing this Debian 5 Package under ReadyNASes Debian 4 environment?
- Did you employ the PCNET protocol or something else?
- What version of apcupsd did you install?
- What magic did you apply to get his to work?
I would be very happy to let our Ready NASes communicate via PCNET with our ups, just as all the servers do.
Right I know I was only able to install apcupsd version 3.12 on the Pro and haven't tried it on the NV+ yet 😞
Looking forward to understand how you technically solved this task.
TIA and best regards, Moglie

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
+ 1
We run several APC UPS with management cards, too, and I would highly appreciate an add-on for the ReadyNAS (especially as it is labelled Business and PRO - it should support Business environment/industry standard UPS).

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
Forget NUT and ssh'ing into your NAS box.
http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/PMAR-8RNKEY_R0_EN.pdf
Specifically page 18 of 28.
According to the above linked new manual from APC, there should be a readyNAS add-on available for having a native PowerChute Network Shutdown add-on in ReadyNAS.
Let the hunting begin. Anyone found it yet?
I just got off a call with APC Tech support and they openned a case and are looking. I figured it's their manual that references it, let's make them find the addon they created.

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
I just received a voicemail from APC/Schneider-Electric right now regarding this same file. They were appologizing to me for it not appearing on their or Netgears site. Why has it not been released as a download on the Website? Is it not stable? Requires more testing?

And...
When is the plugin tested?
Please send otherwise the plugin, because my readynas (from firmware v4.2.18; now RAIDiator 4.2.24) not recognizing my UPS (APC Back UPS BE700G) anymore.

Re: APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
Seeing as both yoh-dah and myself are no longer with NTGR, and no one else from there has commented on this thread in the last two years, I'd consider it dead.
